I picked up a 4x4 SR5 Premium yesterday with a sticker of $38,969 for $36,077, almost 3K off. I was shocked. Like someone just said SoCal dealers are not big on negotiation on these vehicles right now. When I got the email from Toyota Place in Garden Grove I jumped on it.

just picked up a '16 SR5 leftover fo $33,096 before taxes in Pa. sticker was $37,345
I picked up my '17 SR5 w/ AWD, Floor Mats, and chrome exhaust tip on 3/1/2017 from Toyota of Orange. I payed 35,400 before taxes and fees. Opted for the extended bumper to bumper 7yr/75,000 warranty. put 15k down and Toyota matched, then beat my USAA loan of 2.4%, for a final of 2.3%. Ended up with a high $300 monthly payment which I am happy to pay. Just graduated from my university in January, I no longer commute 80+ miles a day, and you gotta treat yourself ever so often! (magnetic grey, FWIT)

My 2nd Gen gave up the ghost, blowing its second engine in less than a year so I moved to a 5th Gen.
2017 TRD Off-Road Premium and paid right at 2000 under MSRP which seems to the going rate around here. It was hard to find an Off-Road Premium with as sunroof and I suspect I could have gotten a better deal on a different model.

SR5 4x4 - 2016 roof rack, running boards, all weather floor matts/cargo tray - silver which isn't my preferred option but pricing is the best in my week of searching using the online/email blast method others mentioned.
Haven't bought it but might jump since no dealer appears to be going below 35,000 in the San Francisco area. I always lead with 32,000 but no one is biting. With the below pushing for aftermarket leather seats instead of a lower price.

Cost: $33,878
TTL would bring to around $37,200
Definitely higher than some of the prices listed in other parts of the country

I can't see how they're losing 4k on a TE at 35k. Maybe he's comparing to the sticker, which of course is not "losing" anything unless someone else is dumb enough to pay msrp. Since it's a 2016, clearly no one is. The drive home will be a nice way to get acquainted though.
I think that is a really good price and would take it. I bought a 2016 SR5 with 3rd row seating for $33,300 OTD about a month and half ago. That was after much negotiation with several dealership not being able to come close.

Still. I'm not saying you're getting a bad price at all, without knowing anything else about this truck or your tax situation it seems like a good price on the surface, I just think he's full of shit. Dealers don't lose money on sales. None of us are special enough a sales business is willing to take a 4k hit for us unless we're married to the owner's daughter. Probably not even then, haha.
$33,300 out the door in Florida.

about to pull the trigger. has anyone been able to get the dealer to waive that advertising fee

The "advertising fee" is just another way they're trying to fleece you. Don't buy from any dealer that makes you pay an advertising fee, adjusted market value, or other BS dealer add-ons. Try to find a dealer who only sells what is listed on the sticker and not any other add-on's that you don't want.
