How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner?

Just purchased a new 2017 Off Road Premium for $37,039. Almost purchased a used one from Elgin Toyota that had 5k miles. They have a hand full of good, low mileage 2016's for $35,990. Better hurry though.

New 4runner owner

Hi everybody just brought a new 2016 4runner trail edition for $38,500 OTD in LA. MSRP was $39,300. Options: nav, floor mats, cargo package, exhaust tip, and aluminum running boards.

MSRP vs Invoice

Not sure if this link below works, but it helped me compare the different options/extras from different dealers and how to value the different options.
At least gave me a starting point.

Didn't go through this dealer (Antioch). Ended up paying $600 over invoice on a 2017 Off Road Premium. Tough in the bay area. Very few cars, and I was picky on my configuration and I didn't want to special order...Premium Offroad, Classic Silver, No Moonroof (most come with moonroof).

Hey guys, working on getting a TRD ORP w/KDSS. Anyone that's used the email blast method care to send me a PM with the letter verbiage? Being in Nor-Cal it's going to be tough to get a deal, so any help would be really appreciated.

(I've got my truck options sorted and my list of dealers ready to go, just struggling with the letter.)

Thanks!

Got mine two days ago.

- 2016 Midnight Black / Redwood interior - Limited
- Only add on was weather mats (no carpet mats)

MSPRP - $44590
Price paid - $38781 + TTL

I see it was a '16 but 13% off MSRP is incredible. Email method, walk-a-way haggle, or what?

I got a '17 SR5 Premium 4x4 with running boards and roof rack for 35,291 + TTL.

Here's the email:
"I'm going to purchase a 2017 SR5 Premium 4Runner 4x4 in red in the next seven days. I'd like you to submit a bid for the vehicle. Please submit a drive-off price and list all options. I only want running boards and cross rails for the roof rack. Any other options will be considered as a tie-breaker, but price will be the determining factor. I have arranged financing."

I set up an email address that I can't check from work. I sent it to 32 dealers in Texas and got replies from less than half and only half of those were bids. They worked very hard to get me to come in. I was shocked at how many bids had the vehicle protection package.

One dealer pulled the offer when I came in to sign the papers, but I got another to match it, actually two others. I really felt I could have gotten them to go lower, but I was already below my target price and kinda tired of dealing with the thing, especially after the bait and switch.

Sent the emails out a month ago and the truck is in the loading line in Houston today, so I'm hoping I'll see it by the weekend.

The dealer had about 10 of 2016s sitting in the lot so that kinda made it easy to negotiate. The only slight issue was picking up the color, I believe 8 were black and 2 silver ones to choose from. I wanted a black one anyway, might have considered magnetic gray but first preference was black. I'm happy with it.

Thanks Wrighter. I did a little word smithing to meet my particular needs. Let the games begin!

Have any of you been able to knock off destination charges when buying? It appears that's always the one thing for where I live (Fresno). Even if I go home to buy one (there's a Premium somewhere exactly how I want it) they have to have it shipped there. Never seems a damn dealership has them. Always $960 fee. This applies to both the '16 and '17.

My family bought two cars recently thought the Costco Auto Buying Program. Mazda 3 and a 5th Gen Limited

https://www.costco.com/auto-program-services.html

The prices are no haggle pre-negotiated pricing.

Its worth checking out... and we found the prices to be about as rock bottom as you can get. If you talk to the rep the same process is very open book and Costco did a great job of advocating for their members.

That fee is set by Toyota corp and good luck trying to remove that. It's the fee of having the car shipped all the way from Japan etc. Now added dealer doc fees I've had success negotiating.

So that fee is always included in the price when they are at your dealership, you just don't see it?

Would that mean the ones that say the fee is going to be charged, are sitting somewhere in Japan rather than here in the US?

I'm saying regardless of what dealership has which one and if they have to swap to get the one you want , all t4rs are manufactured in Japan and imported to the US. You will pay that destination/shipping fee regardless. All
Of the the different car makes I've purchased over the years you always end up paying that fee. Obviously you negotiate on the price of the car but the shipping is always included in the breakout.

Look closely on the price sheet on all vehicles that charge is always built into the MSRP. It will be on the Internet quotes as well.

I knew about the typical shipping from Japan to the United States, no problem there, just didn't like the fact I had to pay $960 dealership to dealership, especially since the Fresno one here literally has ONE 4Runner, and it's the base SR5. That one recently just came in. Probably the three weeks or so before that when I started looking they had none.

However if I can't get around it, I guess I'll just have to try to get them to drop the $960 somewhere else, which so far looks possible from what everyone has been posting.

Maybe I'm just being anal about it. Or perhaps they're just showing it online for whatever reason and I'm overthinking it.

Like you said regardless you are going to negotiate on the truck and won't be paying MSRP so its a moot point. Even dealership to dealership that fee is attached to every toyota vehicle sold in the USA. Another way for the OEM's to make money.
