For those who have gotten a TRD off road premium OTD for less than $38k would you mind sharing the how or dealer that was able to do the deal?
The reason I ask is I’ve been working with a local dealer (who let me see their “purchase price/invoice”), and they won’t budge from $38,500 on a non-premium version. At this point I’m pretty much willing to drive/fly to get a deal like the ones I’ve seen on here!

How close are you to invoice? Are you trying to be below invoice? $38k depends on many factors, and dependent on how well equipped that particular model is.

Basically they’re selling me the car at “invoice”.
The one I’m looking at is a 4x4 trd off road (non-premium) with entune; So no kdss, weather proof mats, leather, running boards, or any other additions/extras....for $38,500 out the door.
My question is if people are getting the premium version for less OTD, then is my dealer not truly giving me the lowest price, or are these buyers not paying taxes, or do some dealerships give unbelievable deals, in which case could somoen provide those dealerships so I can hop on a plane and get that deal

Every dealer can/will/may do different things. My father got his 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 back in 2006 for 13k less than MSRP. He put dealer, against dealer, against dealer via e-mail and in person. The big guy in Idaho who used to have the best prices back than couldn't beat the last offer my dad had. When I had purchased my 5th gen I got a decent price, not the best but at the time 4Runner Trail Edition were like Gold, nearly impossible to find.
If I were you I would take the offer in writing and go to another dealer. That is the true way to get/check the best price.
I think it’s dependent on the dealer, and their books. Some dealers most likely have more flexibility to move goods at certain prices (high volume). Invoice isn’t bad if that’s what you’re getting. If I can get invoice minimum, without doc fees added, I’m happy. Make sure the price they’re offering is in fact invoice price, by checking their ‘invoice price’ with a site like edmunds, or the Costco auto site.
Also, we’re nearing the end of the month. These high volume dealers will most likely want to move cars off their lot. And with 18’s in, you could get an even better deal on a ‘17 (if they have one). Based on how the new car sales automotive market has been recently, you should be in a good position to negotiate for a lower price.
I’m in same position as you now, and patiently trying to score lowest deal possible, preferably under invoice. Best of luck!

You didn't say what Huntsville you were from so I assumed Alabama. I plugged your zip code in to car gurus and came up with this.

These are all the new 4runners within 500 miles of that location. Select TRD from the list on the left and sort by lowest price. You'll see there is one in Ohio for 36.6k. It's worth the drive to save 2 grand.
I bought my 17 from the dealer in Montgomery. They took 10% off MSRP and then gave me extra for my trade because I drove 2 hrs from Dothan on a Sunday to pick it up. I was in and out in under 30 mins. They had not sold a car all day and wanted to make the deal. I was trying for $32K OTD but anything under $33 for me was acceptable, especially for a MSRP of $39,8.
with KDSS i think you should be very happy with that price. I think you need a dealer that doesn't know the rarity of that option to get them to deal like it's just another 4R with a random option. It's location dependent too, in Southeast 2WD is very common, and KDSS is almost impossible to find.

Just a quick follow up to my search after calling about 12 dealerships from a variety of places around the country..the two best deals I was able to get/find
New 2017 TRD Off Road (non-premium) with predator running boards, all weather mats and cargo tray, exhaust tip, and roof rack cross bars
MSRP = $39348 / sale price was $35900 + dealer fee + tax
Salesman was Robert Shultz of Jay Wolfe Toyota of West County (MO) (I did ask if it was okay to post his name before making this post)...basically his financing person is the only reason I didn’t buy the car, guy was super rude and pushy how I had to finance the car the way he wanted me to...the way he spoke to me rubbed me the wrong way.
Pretty much the second I got off the phone with him, I got a call back from a dealership Sylacauga, AL, which is much closer to home. 2017 TRD Off Road (premium) with predator running boards, sliding rear cargo deck, moon roof, and exhaust tip (I think)
MSRP = $42566/ sale price $37900 + dealer fee + tax
I felt like that was a great deal and they were able to use the financing incentive being offered on top of that so I made out pretty much exactly where I wanted to be!
