How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner?

First time poster on here and will likely buy a new 4Runner this weekend. Just thought I would share a quote I received from Ourisman Fairfax Toyota in Northern VA. I will likely get a TRD Offroad Premium but thought I'd try for a Pro...

"I'd be more than happy to provide you with a quote for a 2017 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro. We actually just got one traded in that is red and it has 14K miles on it! I know you we're probably looking for a new one however I did want to let you know we have this one in stock and it is going for $57,991 (plus taxes, tags and fees). Would you be interested in coming in to take a look at it? Do you have any questions regarding this vehicle?"

I know the TRD Pro fetches a premium but I would have never guessed a price like this on a used one!

One thing I have learned, if you go into a dealer looking for a 2018 TRD Pro or TRD Off Road with KDSS, they know they've got you, the price will be sticker or very close to it. I went with a leftover 2017 TRD Off Road, non KDSS and was able to negotiate well below the sticker price, though on the first offer they made it was exactly the price on the window. I would submit that for the difference in price for a below MSRP TRD Off Road vs a Sticker or above TRD Pro, you could modify the TRD Off Road to be the same or better than the Pro. For me what I wanted was the ground clearance, the locking diff and crawl control, as well as the proper 4WD lever vs. the little button. everyone's priorities are different of course, but they really make you pay for the Pro package because they know if you don't the next guy will. I am very happy with my leftover 17 TRD Off Road and extremely satisfied with the price I paid. may be worth your consideration.

Sunnyvale Toyota, the same dealership that told me "we do a standard $500 under MSRP on everything we sell whether it's a regular car or an in-demand car because that's how we stay fair" when I tried to get a better deal on a Limited or Off-Road, is selling a 2018 4Runner TRD Pro for a smooth $50,413. Either the MSRP on that TRD Pro is $50,913 or they're liars. I wonder which it is.

Oh, that's just the MSRP after some of those sweet distributor add-ons... you know, pin stripes, tint, window etching, paint/interior sealant, locking lug nuts, ball mount, etc.

Region: Southern California

White 2018 TRD Premium. Options: KDSS, Power tilt/slide moonroof, Sliding rear cargo deck, Roof Rack cross bars, All weather floor matts and cargo tray liner.

My cost: $42.7K (-$500 from MSRP). Dealer also paid +$500 higher on my trade-in than any other dealer had quoted.

This was the only white TRD Premium in Southern California with the options I wanted, and the dealer knew it. That said MSRP to MSRP-$1K is the going rate for TRD Premiums in my part of the world. I was hoping for -$500, I would have paid $+500, so I'm happy with the price.

in march of this year, ordered a 17 TRD off road premium with KDSS and all the features except the moon room ($900 option that id rather have in a room rack in the future). i figured if i was spending 50k on a truck, im going to want exactly everything from color to options...etc

it came out to be $43k before taxes/fees with a $500 discount. After taxes and fees (washington has high ass tax) and a $2500 extended warranty, it was $48k out the door.

Put down a deposit this evening for a 2017 Magnetic Gray TRD Offroad Premium with KDSS.

MSRP: $42,734

$37,769 - Selling Price
$995 - Destination
$299 - Processing Fee
$1,621.13 - VA Taxes
$180 - Tags, Title, & Registration
$40,864 - Final Price

I am happy with the price. I have sort of been avoiding looking more into this due to fear of hearing about better prices. Either way, seems like a decent price in this area.

Pick it up on Saturday. Cannot wait!

I just paid $35,700 before TTL & Trade for a '17 Premium in NY. You're looking at a roughly 9-10% discount off MSRP, which is a pretty good deal regardless of location. I say go for the $36k premium.

Thanks for the info. Very helpful

Here's the problem. I put a deposit on the vehicle after I was told the vehicle had third row sate by the salesman. The pictures show it has third row seating also.

I asked him in writing to validate that the vehicle had them. He called me and told me that the vehicle doesn't have third row, they were sorry and basically said if I wanted a red one it would cost me 1100 more dollars or they could refund my money.

I think they are playing a game and we're going to wait until I showed up and played stupid.

I paid a deposit on an advertised product and they are pulling "bait and switch" I think. I'm pretty sure that vehicle actually does have the third row and they are being shifty. Also the new vehicle they quoted with the third row on the offer sheet had the vin hidden. I asked for the VIN and thy said the computer was down and couldn't provide it.

Any thoughts?

Honestly, these aren't exactly rare trucks. Outside of the TRD Pro, every dealer can get their hands on them. I'd take a refund on my deposit and go elsewhere. Those are exactly the type of dealers who are going to try and mess with numbers at the end.

I walked away from a deal on an '18 SR5 Premium for my '17. The '18 was the same exact truck plus running boards for only $400 more and was around the corner from my house. However, they wouldn't send me the quote in writing and went from saying "we can definitely get you close to $13k on your trade" to "we can't even back a $10k trade value without you coming in to let us appraise your car". I liked the salesman and wanted to give him the business, but when I wasn't getting concrete answers I walked.

So, this may be a little off topic, but just a question. I wouldn't back a trade offer of even $1.00 on ANY car I haven't seen and driven under ANY circumstances, customers lie almost as much as sales people. if the dealer was just around the corner, why didn't you simply let them take a look at your trade, that's not even remotely and unreasonable request. I have pushed on my trade value before and even gone so far as letting the dealers head mechanic have the car for an hour, he put it on the lift etc. I didn't care at all as long as I got my number in the end. did the dealer you ended up buying from make you a trade offer sight unseen??

Fair, that wasn't exactly the best explanation. I work in NYC, and already had an appointment to go buy the '17 with a bottom line number, estimated trade, etc. I drove the car to work that day with the intention of driving on to NJ to pick up the truck I currently own. When this dealer heard I was about to make a deal, the price began to drop precipitously. However, the used car manager was off that day so they wouldn't appraise the car until the following night. What I was asking for was a ballpark trade in value, so that I had some understanding that they weren't going to hit me with $8k on a $12k car like certain other dealers had tried. I was also frustrated with the change in answers I was getting from the salesman. Going from "we can totally get you what you're looking for" to "we can't give you any numbers, just take a leap of faith with us and don't buy the other truck" wasn't enough for me to pass on the deal I had set up. I'll also mention that I had worked for this dealership previously and the sales manager knew who I was and was aware of what I was looking for.

Regardless, while I can understand not giving a precise trade value, almost every dealer I've talked to has been able to give me a ballpark number based on their valuation systems. Generally, they've told me "we can't guarantee this until we see the car, but assuming it's in good shape we'll probably be around this number." I knew the car was in good shape and was happy to prove it to them in person if we could get to some sort of ballpark number. The only thing I wanted in writing was the price of the truck, which they wouldn't provide me.

well see, now that makes a lot of sense, especially if you were known by the dealer and if you've worked in the industry, you know if one thing or another is damaged etc. they are going to need to fix it before they put it on the lot, or whether they're just going to send it to auction as is. also a ballpark is a reasonable request, especially if you were cool with the contingent "if it's what you say it is" and again, them giving you the price of the truck in writing, knowing you had a deal done with another dealership has got to be the ONLY way they were going to earn your business. Thanks for clarifying, not that you needed to, reading the whole story it makes perfect sense why you walked.

Exactly. Like I said, poor first explanation on my part. It had nothing to do with me being in the industry either (I worked in service, not sales). Just with having a basic understanding of what car dealers do with trade ins, you can see why they wouldn't commit to any specific price sight unseen. A ballpark, however, is something almost any dealer can provide.

But bottom line (and my point to the poster) was that if you feel like a dealership isn't being up front with you for any reason, just walk away. There are so many Toyota dealerships out there who will work with you that it's not worth wasting your time on a dealer that's playing games.

I will also say that Toyota's inventory search and cars.com are your best friends here. Find a truck with a 3rd row, then match the MSRP to cars.com to determine which dealer has the truck. Dealers are always more willing to negotiate on a car that's on their lot than one they have to go find.

Great looking truck! I'm shopping for the same build. How do you like the predator tubes?

That was the one option that I really was not looking for. I am a big guy and I really don't need any help getting in the thing, however it turns out that my wife is much shorter than I am and she is very happy they are on there, so I guess it all worked out in the end!

I look at those steps sticking out and down and it just seems to me they would potentially cause ground clearance issues.

I had not thought about it until reading on the forum, but it does seem like a good idea to have something there to protect the truck.

Anyway, I am really liking the truck very much. I'm 53 years old and this is the first car I ever bought that I was excited about, and I like it better every day.

Next, if I can every manage to get this thing paid off and save some money before it needs replaced my goal is to get a Corvette. I do need to see if I fit in a Corvette first before I make too many plans.

I just picked up a TRD off road Premium with KDSS, with a sticker of $42,025,

for $40,500 before T&L, right before we left for Hawaii.

I could have done a little better, but I was tired of shopping and bargaining...

I gave my wife a book on local off-road trails to read on the plane to Hawaii.

While in Hawaii I took her on some of the trails over there.

On the way back she asked,

"Are we going to get a winch?"
