Thanks for the advice. I ran a true car quote this morning on an SR5 premium with a moonroof. MSRP was $40,079 and true car came in at $38,172. This is in central Ohio. The price seems terrible compared to what others are saying they've been offered. I was scanning through last year and saw people saying they were getting these in the $33's.

You should try to negotiate for the $35k range. Contact several dealers (some out of area) via email.
It's always best to deal with dealers at the end of the month or once a new model year comes out. They tend to be more willing to negotiate.
If you have to go a state away the drive is worth it. I drove 150 miles to DC for the best price. I loved every minute of my drive home in the 4Runner.

No way the starting price is MSRP especially since it doesn't even have KDSS. No doubt the dealer added some overpriced options. You should be able to get that vehicle for around 37k. I wouldn't even try that dealership. Try Fred Haas Toyota World in Spring. Use the carpro USA discount and see what price they give you. Straight Talk. Trusted Dealers. | CarProUSA and click on "Find a Certified Dealer" and search Houston. You can still negotiate even after that price, or at least try. You may even try emailing Jerry Reynolds who is the Car Pro guy. He's always answered my emails and is very helpful.

In September of 2018, I purchased a 2018 T4R ORP (no KDSS, no moonroof) for around $38k before TTI in Colorado. The sales person and I started talking at around $41k...
Note: I believe what I paid was almost exactly the Edmunds True Market Value that I was basing my negotiations on.

Been shopping for a 2018/19 SR5 RWD for a few weeks now in south-central OK. Been looking from Dallas to OKC. Discovered TX dealers are a bit lower in price and that very little discounting is done on left over 2018's. Best price I found on 19 SR5 RWD was at a dealer in Wichita Falls TX and was right at $32K prior to TTL (that includes all the dealer add on's, most of which they deleted from offered price). The a dealer got in a 2018 with 17,150 miles on it that had been a rental fleet car. It's an SR5 4X4 that is in great condition. All checks out on CarFax. Their price I got them to is $30,900 with nothing else to add on but TTL. From what I've seen the price is good and my lender is treating it as a "new car" loan. So all is goodness. But I've never considered a "rental fleet" car before. Friends are telling me it's not an issue but I dunno. Any thoughts about that ?
We paid $37,150 (out the door 37850, no tax in Oregon. Just .5% luxery tax). for a 2019 SR5 premium with moon roof, 3rd row seats, all weather mats, rear cargo mat, and roof cross bars. Originally they offered us one at $36900 but that one sold so had to pay extra for one that came with the roof racks.
The market has been flooded with rental 4Runners. No way in hell would I buy one. (4x4 anyway) I have rented many cars and I have seen how people treat rental cars. If you are OK with 2wd, I personally would stick with the new one for a little more.

Paid 47k plus tax for my 2019 Pro. Gave me a little bit of a discount since wife and i have purchased 3 new Toyota's since July 2017,plus they didn't charge me for the wheel locks or the sliding cargo tray. Great deal considering they get over list at a lot of dealers.
FWIW - Paid $37,055 for a new 2019 SR5 4WD with upgraded nav, rear tray, running boards, exhaust tip (?!) etc. in CA...plus tax, reg. lic. using Truecar. It had a few small extra options I didn't care about, and the price wasn't as low as I could have paid if I'd worked the dealers against each other, but I saved a little over $2K off MSRP. I just paid the price and didn't shop it b/c my bank financing was dealer-specific [for some reason]. It seemed like a fair price - and they are my local Toyota dealer.
BTW - My bank financing was at 4.19% (w/A++ credit). I think Toyota wanted 5.9% tho I didn't apply. Seems like auto loans are getting more expensive. I hear write-offs are way up.
Edit: Agreed with others, there were several late-model 4Runners with low-mileage out there, but they were all ex-rentals and they were asking 32K+. No thanks.

Would you mind sharing where you've been able to get pricing like this? I'm only getting around 6% off MSRP in central Ohio. I was just quoted 37,914 for one with no options at all. Not even a sunroof. The best quote I've received on an SR5 premium has been 35,900 again with no options at all. Dealers around here just aren't budging.
If you are willing to drive to Chicago, I can send you my dealer contact. You might be able to beat the price more though if you get other dealers to bid off against each other.
Chicagoland has the lowest price from what I've seen.
What's the MSRP and invoice price?
Invoice was $41760 if i recall correctly. i don't have the paper work in front of me at the moment.
Price before tax is what people are looking for.

This sounds like a great deal. 10% off MSRP seems good and you're beyond that. What state are you finding this deal in?
