How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner?

It's a bit more complicated than that, based on my experience...

If you buy a California vehicle and pick it up in California, you pay California sales tax.

If you buy a California vehicle and ship it to your home state, you pay your home state's sales tax.

Registration (title and tags) is always your home state's rates.

Please correct me if I am wrong here but this was the situation when I last bought an Internet vehicle...

Not just the state, it's down to the county/city that you register the vehicle in. That means you can buy a car in one town with a lower tax rate, but still have to pay the rate of the city you live in. The dealer has to estimate the total and include it in your financed or cash amount, and then it forwards this payment to your state's DMV. If there are any discrepancies, you have to hash it out with your local DMV when registering and getting tags. This is why most dealers that sell out of state will overestimate the amount by a hair, so that the overage goes back to the title holder. This is how it happened when I bought my truck in Portland and drive it home to LA.

(PS if you buy a vehicle outside of California, you will have to get it smogged in order to register- even if it's a brand new truck with 50-state emission compliance. Fun!)

Yeah California is one of those places that will take whatever money they can get their hands on. You can buy a new car in another state and bring it here and only pay CA tax but not the other way around.

Unfortunately our 5th gen was just totaled so we've been shopping. In a testament to these trucks value retention, our insurance is paying out 26k to us (still had a little left on the loan) and the truck is 4 years old with 99k miles. In their appraisal, if we had a normal 65k on it, they would have offered almost $30k! I was impressed. I hear so many horror stories with insurance and in this instance they offer more than I was expecting haha.

Anyway I just left the dealer this evening and put a hold on a 2019 Black LE with Redwood interior and 3rd row. Stickered at $47k and change, listed at $44k and change. Shook hands at $42k flat. (Before taxes and title... swapping my original plates though)

Any of you all bought a Certified used 4Runner? Found one a few hours away and I'm sure there's a markup for it being certified but not sure what would be a fair markup over a non-certified one with the same specs.

NADA tends to show the mark up on Certified vehicles between $750 and $1200. The F-150 I traded in received an extra $1500 on value due to being a Ford CPO vehicle. That Toyota CPO 100k power-train warranty is a nice bonus and worth the coin IMO. My biggest deterrent with buying a used 4runner was how well they hold their value. I shopped high and low between MD and VA. The difference between brand new and loaded vs. used w/ 40k miles and slightly less optioned was usually $2500-3500. Add in Toyota Care, less than 25 miles on the odometer, and that new car smell... I'll pay the extra cash. Opinions do vary though. Good luck!

PS - Toyotas, especially 4runners, tend to be so reliable that the warranty might actually be less valuable now that I think about it. I can't recall reading about anybody having any major issues south of the 100k mark. Tough call. With most domestic brands I would say it is well worth the money.

Before I even could get on the phone with someone this morning they'd sold it supposedly for $35k (It was listed on cars.com for 34k but could have been a typo) Either way when I'm seeing quotes for a new 2019 at $37.5-$38k it's hard to justify buying a 3 year old vehicle to only save a few thousand.

That said I did talk to another dealer with a 2016 Trail Premium w/ KDSS and 31k miles today. They're holding at $32,900, told them I'd sleep on it.

Kind of what I've thought as well. I know no vehicle is immune to problems but a warranty on something that has a good track record of not having problems doesn't seem so special.

You seem to have done your homework. I'd just make the dealership you're most comfortable with find what you want. I came close to settling on a 2018 TRD OR with 3k miles for $35,700 I think? Didn't have the heated seats or moon roof. Needless to say, I knew what I couldn't live without so that aided my decision.

I've got a fairly local dealership that I like and if I buy new I'll go with them. My plan is to buy new around the end of July (giving my brother my current vehicle to take to college so I'll need something by then) unless I find a real good value on something used.

I just paid $36,300 on a 19' Off Road non premium with a sticker price of $40,084. my previous 16' SR5 had a sticker of $37,345 and i paid $33k

Nice deal!! Does the new one have kdss? More detail please if you don't mind. I'm guessing you had a trade?

yeah i traded in my 16' SR5, it does not have KDSS but had carpet & all weather mats, door edge guards, running boards, and they threw in TRD Pro wheels. due to my trade in i only had to pay taxes on the difference between the two. sot that cut out almost $2k in taxes

Well I have officially joined the 4Runner ranks. Closed a deal yesterday for a new 2019 TRDO with KDSS.

Sticker was $41399, sale price was $38731. At face value it looks like only an 'ok' deal, but this dealer beat Carmax's appraisal of my trade-in by $1000, and they also had to trade for the vehicle with a dealer in Reno (a 7 hour drive). They didn't charge me for shipping, and they threw-in door edge guards and window tint. Super easy transaction. It was honestly a real pleasure dealing with them, which is a rarity for local dealerships. If anyone in Vegas wants their contact info, just let me know.

Out the door price was $38725, not including registration which we pay in person at the dmv. This out the door price is @ $2750 less than what I would have paid for a nearly identical truck in Los Angeles last weekend.

Sounds like a deal, just don't forget that CARMAX historically gives bottom dollar for cars that they buy. They're a huge sales empire with a no-haggle policy, that's their MO.

Yeah I would never buy or sell a car at Carmax. I use them only for their free appraisals, just to get a general idea of what I can expect from a regular dealer if trading-in a car. A lot of times, a regular new car dealer will "hold" a certain percentage of the used car manager's actual trade-in offer to give them some room to negotiate on the sale of the new car.

In this case, Carmax's offer for $17000 was directly in line with current values on KBB and Edmunds, as an average price between "Clean" and "Outstanding" condition for a Trade-in. The dealer in LA made an initial offer of $15300 ("held" 10%) and then was willing to quickly match the Carmax offer when I showed them the printout. The local Vegas dealer offered $18000 which was more or less Private Party value on Edmunds.....

To be honest, I think the local guys may have screwed up and appraised my GTI as an SE instead of Sport trim level. Fine with me! :becky:

Sounds like a great deal! It's funny how most folks won't shop outside their own town and spend thousands more because of it. Always wanted a GTI, especially with tartan seats! Hope you don't miss it!

44K OTD: New 2019 4Runner TRD ORP with Dealer Lift

Just helped a friend to get their 2019 TRD OffRoad Premium, with Dealer installed lift kit (3" front and 2" rear). List price 46K = 40K+6K Options (lift/tint/etc), final OTD price 44K. Sounds like a great deal to me.

The installed lift comes with 3 yrs/36000 warranty.

CamelBack Toyota @PHX is very easy to deal with and willing to negotiate with customer.

We also went to the "Big Two Toyota" on the same day, which we had terrible experience with. Similar modified 4Runner but have TRD wheel, roof rack and step, they priced at 52K list price which comes to 59K OTD!!! Worst of all, the sales manager just didn't want to negotiate the price at all, until we left and sit back in our car. Still they want 48K plus all fee/tax which is 52K OTD.

Highly recommend to CamelBack Toyota for new car and service.

I may trade in my 2017 GTI SE for a 4Runner. They gave you $17K for your sport? How many miles were on it and what year? Thanks!

I could have purchased mine from Camelback but Larry Miller in Peoria had one without the running boards and had the sliding rear cargo and was just a tad cheaper so I went with them.

Well hopefully you are not a hard-core off-roader as 17" wheels would have been better so you can air down more. Those look like 20's.

I'm looking to get a 2019 4runner TRD off road premium with the XP predator package. What is a reasonable price for this model and package? I'm in Atlanta.
