At this point I really think it makes sense to just buy the car out of state and have it transported to CA.

Isn't that pretty much MSRP? When I was shopping I was able to negotiate a better deal than Costco. Costco only gave me around $2000 off MSRP. I'm in Northern California.
Mine is a SR5 Premium 4x4 with the following options:
3rd row
moon roof
running boards
roof rack cross bars
all weather floor and cargo mats
wheels locks
MSRP was $41270 and I got it for $37000 before TTL ($40700 OTD). If I had known, I would have waited 2 months later to purchase because there was a $1000 rebate. :redbrick:
2018 grey trd off road with kdss, rubber Matt’s, rack. Paid 40k OTD and I went in with my own financing through my credit union. They provided that OTD price before stepping into the dealer and I was signing papers within 30 min. Got mine from Right Toyota I’m socal.

Yes. Go out of state. I don't know why everyone thinks they have to buy from next door. Spend a couple hundred on a Southwest ticket, save thousands. Enjoy the trip home and see the sights in your new truck.

I got a 2019 TRD ORP in September for 38k. They threw in the black out package too so the emblem, and lights were blacked out and they gave me the trd wheels. Pretty happy with what I got in OKC. Seems the pricing in the midwest is significantly lower that the East and West Coast.

For those of you who have purchased thru (USAA or Costco) are the discounts similar? can you use either to purchase out of state? are the discounts only within your state?
As some have said 2K below invoice, sounds good but Florida has ridiculous fees so I'd be looking out of state.
I'll probably wait for the 2020 so I'm just doing some advance homework.

Use email rather than going into a dealership and let them beat each other. It will be tough to get them to do email as they will beg you to come in but don't. If they won't negotiate via email then blow them off as they will be too high anyway.
I bought mine in Peoria, AZ at Larry Miller Toyota and used air miles to fly out and pick it up. Spent the night in Tucson at a resort and drove up Mt. Lemmon on the way home. My internet salesperson's name was Tony Martinez. He had no problem negotiating over email.

USAA lets you put in a zip code and range for the search area. It depends on the dealer for how much of a discount they give and if it’s a no haggle price or not. I was able to get a slightly better price at a USAA dealer than they quoted me on the car buying service. Just prepare to be spammed by every dealer around once you agree to see all the discounted prices. AZ had a lot of fees too, but I wasn’t able to make it out of state. If you go through USAA for financing they also lower the rate if you use the car buying service to contact the dealer.
PSA for anyone shopping in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana:
It's apparently impossible to get a TRD ORP with no KDSS and no moonroof. The region only buys ORP with either KDSS or moonroof, or both. My local Illinois dealer(largest in the Chicago area) tried to special order one for me without either and got told no by their region contact. They also can't get the sliding tray.
Missouri and Iowa can dealers can order ORP without anything, and they can also order the sliding cargo tray.
I ended up placing a new order from a St. Louis dealer today.

That's interesting, in TX, OK, AR, LA, MS, you can’t get one with KDSS. These are all in Gulf States Distr territory. I want one with that option so I’ve been looking in Missouri and Kansas. Anyone deal with Riley Toyota? Been looking in AZ as well.
Toyota regional distributors are a real PITA like that. I understand providing guidelines on what options may or not sell well in that region, but preventing dealers from special ordering something all together is pretty dumb.

Buying my first 4Runner soon. Two questions. First, can anyone weigh in on whether the following quote is competitive (I’m in CO): TRD Premium with these accessories:

-TRD Pro Wheels (Black)

-Cargo Tray
This is $400 below invoice, ~$4,000 below MSRP, and it’s slightly lower than Costco pricing. Is this good? Will it drop lower as we get closer to 2020s being released?
Second, what do you think the new 2020’s will go for? MSRP? Above? Sounds like the upgrades will be fairly minimal (new infotainment + safety system), so I’m trying to gauge whether it’s worth waiting vs. getting one discounted now.
