How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner?

I've noticed that all the tint, protection, and nitrogen packages always add up to 1500 plus of total trash that you didn't ask for and don't need and it's debatable they actually do anything.

I said I wasn't paying for any of it. They argued they already paid someone to do it. I said that wasn't my fault. Then, they said they'd have to pay someone to remove it. I just laughed at that whole bit, and told them to go ahead, of course knowing that wasn't going to happen.

I'm not implying you paid it, it's just ridiculous that they claim they did any of this. Must have cost them pennies on the dollar if they even did anything they claimed on that sticker.

Some of the dealers in the Bay Area have a Pro Pak that includes a 200 dollar set of Weather Tech floor mats for a bargain price of 1000 dollars, and they claim "you can't remove them because they've already been ordered!"

They also lie that they tint the back windows when they all come from the factory that way. It's a "special tint" on top of the factory tint...

The local Toyota dealer tried to sell us some paint protection package and showed us a rusted ass eaten through 2015 they must have gotten from the rust belt as an example to what happens if you don't apply paint protection--except I have a 2013 that has seen 7 Colorado winters that looked nothing like that.

OTD for $47500 with 8.75% taxes
I live in San Diego and NOT ONE dealer down here would budge off of MSRP. Also there was no inventory in SD either. Looks like Tustin and Longo are the ones that will budge the most in SOCAL. Almost had to go to AZ. This thread was a huge help. Thanks all!!

$45,295 on the window sticker

We got it about as Plain Jane as you can order one - with the exception of adding KDSS.

No dealer add ons, no options, no accessories. We were surprised to see that it had floor mats, a cargo net, and a tiny first aid kit.

Final price - $42,639

OTD - $45,750

Not sure if we got a good deal or not, but the deal is done - and hopefully it was a fair one.

What is the tax rate in your area? 45,700 OTD is a pretty good deal considering the market right now. I paid 47K OTD in SOCAL.

I feel like sales tax should be excluded from this topic and should only be focused on the agreed to price for the vehicle itself. Including tax in the out-the-door (OTD) price is confusing as hell because tax rates across the US are highly variable. For example, where I live in Kansas my taxes are nearly 10% for a vehicle purchase with taxes on my wife's 2020 4runner being over $3,800. Other places in the US have next to no tax on a vehicle purchase.

I can confirm that SD county wouldnt budge at all nor would do Costco discounts on NEW inventory. They did knock off $750 for used listings though.

I ended up getting a used certified 2018 sr5 from norm reeves for a little over 32.5k 50k miles with a 7 year/100k warranty. From what I am seeing on autotrader I may have scored the best deal on a used Sr5 4x4 thats certified in the entire state.

That's fine, but if we stop including taxes and fees in the prices we also need to stop using the phrase "OTD", as it is literally telling people that said taxes and fees are included in the price.

Saying you got a vehicle for $XX,XXX OTD and not including taxes and fees is asinine.

True, but taxes are typically calculated by your county of residence--even if you buy out of state. So it wouldn't be helpful for someone living in a free state to see what the OTD price is in Commiefornia if they want a sense of what a "good deal" is.

Final negotiated price minus tax is most helpful.

Or in other words: some states bend you over in taxes and fees and it has nothing to do with the price of the car.

For us here (very near to Houston, Texas) - our 4R arrived at GST on the morning of December 3rd. We picked it up from the dealership on December 8th.

I just got a new 2021 SR5 4x4 on black friday for $37,500. The only added feature they threw in was the predator step bar.

Purchased my 2020 trd orp on September 5th. 39,752.68 otd after tax title and license. Purchased my wife’s 2021 venture October 17th 40,654.32 otd after tax title and license. This was in East Tennessee. Only way we got the deal was we bought two at the same time and had to wait for hers. The dealership probably thought we were full of it until I came back with two cashiers checks. We did not get any addons than what the truck came with. No extra service or warranty packages. We have the factory warranty and that’s it. With our intent for the trucks more than daily drivers we knew it would not be worth our money.

Majority of those additions are called “hard adds” and they are applied on vehicle before they are listed for sale. Many dealerships have finance and insurance agencies that they work with and “pre-load” the vehicles with their products.

Most of the pre-load adds are useless except for an upgraded security system, environmental protection sealant, and etch (small stickers with serial numbers that are placed all over the vehicle in the event if your ride gets stolen and chopped up). If you know what they actually cost then you can negotiate the price of those adds.
