How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner?

I think that most people who can spend 50k on an suv have the financial resources to weather this inflation spike and higher gas prices. We're not making a 50k decision on an extra 50 bucks a month on gas.

I do agree that those with long commutes and fewer resources will be looking into other options.

Though, it's still tough to find a similar suv with the same reliability and reputation.

Possibly, but guess we'll see...

Yikes, $49K for an SR5P? That's the price the dealer quoted me on an ORP with KDSS and a moonroof!

It's ridiculous. You're practically in Limited territory at that price, too.

Base price $42,890 + $5,831 (!!) in options + $1,270 delivery.

$630 - moonroof
$1,085 - 3rd row
$2,999 - blackout-plus package
$299 - cross bars
$179 - cargo cover
$464 - vehicle protection plus package
$995 - premier protection package

Crazy how much things have changed in one year. Was just looking through my emails at when I should have pulled the trigger almost one year ago today -- multiple dealers in my area gave me quotes for $5k - $7k off depending on the model. Could have bought a TRD ORP for $39,800.

I guess avery region has their own package names...What is the "Blackout Plus package"? TRD Pro black rims/tires + blacked out badging? What are the last two "protection" plans, extended warranties?

I purchased a 2022 SR5 Premium with a moonroof, all weather mats and cargo liner, roof cross bars, and door edge guards for $45,008 I just need to add tax and dmv fees. Westminster Toyota in VT
I live in New York. Local dealerships want 4-6k over msrp. I refuse to be taken advantage of so I declined and found a nice normal pleasant dealership. My car arrives in the port in nyc on 3/15.
Oh, I also got $4,000 MORE on my Subaru trade in then offered from Carvana so I figured buying at msrp was ok because of the extra 4 grand I made on the trade

I know it's been fairly recent phenomenon, but does it seem like the insane price for gas is scaring away the crowds and waiting lists at the dealer that were lining up to buy 4Runners?
Well it’s always been a Dem dream to have European gas prices and Brandon has been working hard to make that happen and with the Ukraine conflict expect it to go higher. Yesterday I saw one gas station raise their prices .84 cents in 24 hrs. Never saw a jump like that in my life. They went from the cheapest to the most expensive in town overnight at $5.53 a gallon. I’ve seen a buck and a half increase in just the last month. Sadly I don’t see it slowing down any time soon. I think this will start to affect sales.

Wait until gas hits $10 a gallon. It could easily be $5-10 fir the next 6 months, with the same for food prices. Throw in some rate hikes to try and deflate things and I have a feeling the market will be completely awash with barely used SUVs and trucks by summer.

LOL! You think "Brandon" raised the price of gas .84 cents overnight? Oil companies could pump more oil on leases they already have, but right now, they're taking advantage of the news on the price of oil and sneaking in a much larger increase than the price of oil should reflect, and printing money. That's Capitalism's ugly side - greed.

Doubt it will reach $10.00/gallon, too much of our economy relies on it to transport everything we buy. Before that, I think people will cut back more and prices will drop to keep demand up. Casual Car Pooling is starting up again around here for the first time since the pandemic started. But will probably stay high for a while.

Sounds like someone with some "wishfull thinking" about buying a new vehicle without the crazy markups that are out there today

The gas prices are all driven by the commodity sector not what the presidents says or war (not saying that those two things don't effect what commodity traders base their trading logic on), so if barrels trade for 100 dollars a barrel Friday morning and 123 friday afternoon, gas prices follow suite.

We put a deposit on an SR5 Premium, black metallic with beige interior, for just under $46k. Add-ons include moonroof, 3rd row seating, black-out emblems, wilderness package and dual power ports. Should be here mid April.

Was dealing with another dealer, on a Lunar Rock TRD ORP, but they had a $5k dealer "additional assessments" of tint, undercoating, clear bra, etc., that they would not budge on, nor omit. While trying to negotiate removing the added costs, another customer put a deposit down. Poorly run negotiations on their part I think, but they are also a smaller volume dealer. Ended up going with a larger, no BS dealer in the area. Only thing we didn't get is a locker, which we can add later and are happy with the choice we made.

I have to tell you that "Undercoating" is the biggest scam. Don't ever pay for that. All vehicles are undercoated at the factory. I used to work in one and I know. If at all, maybe they sprayed something that is so totally unnecessary to charge you that money.

Curious, not trying to make it political and more of just an understanding question as I know nothing about commodities or trading them. Here is what I'm seeing. Oil was $36/bbl on November 3rd and doubled almost immediately after the election. Oil was $90/bbl before the war and hit almost $130 the other day because of the war. Biden shut down pipelines and campaigned largely against oil and more green energy. How does what the president says or does or war not effect oil prices? This whole war is about oil. Genuinely curious.

I can't help but ask. Gas stations buy the gas from the distributor already for say for example 2.5 dollars/gallon.

News breaks out about war and oil crisis.

How come the gas stations jacked up the prices immediately? It's almost like they are displaying crude oil futures like a stock market. Whereas the gas underground at that time was bought for a lower price!

So can you also tell the ratio of cost of war vs price gouging? Say for a dollar price increase, how much is genuine increase due to war and how much is oil companies cashing in on the demand?

If at all anything, instead of knocking on the doors of middle east and Venezuela oversight is needed on how the oil companies mark up prices and if it actually reflects the increase in price of the commodity.

Brandon here is probably the name of the distributor and the gas station owner.

Got SR5, paid MSRP as on Toyota site.
Took a little under 10 weeks from placing deposit to delivery.

Toyota of Iowa City. Ask for Frank. Very good experience. No pushing or anything, kept me in the loop through the waiting time, set me up with a very good loan rate beating Chase by almost 0.5%

At first I wanted rear sliding tray, but dealer suggested it may increase waiting time so we crossed it out.

I had this exact same question, for the very same reasons. I asked friends of ours who own and run a small gas station/market/auto repair facility (4 pumps) in the Northeast. Their answer was that they take fuel deliveries at least 2X a week, sometimes 3. I've seen this place, and it doesn't strike me as a high volume operation. It's a typical mom and pop shop with a couple of lifts and a handful of used cars for sale on the side. I had no idea stations refueled this often. Maybe it's a function of this station's size or local restrictions on underground fuel tank volume.

Regardless, as a result any market price increase impacts them almost immediately and they pass it on to the consumer in real time (I didn't ask how quickly they adjust the sale price when markets move the other way...). They said they make very little profit in selling fuel (relative to the required infrastructure/maintenance costs), and that they continue to do it only to draw traffic to the business. BTW, they claimed the same for state inspections - they make about $20 per inspection. The real value is in building their client base, the potential for a follow up repair for a failed inspection (seems like a little conflict of interest there) and just generally building relationships to be the repair shop of choice for new customers.

Furthermore, they said high fuel prices in general were devastating for their business - people tend to drive less resulting in reduced traffic and even those that do stop to fuel up tend to not purchase anything else due to increased out of pocket cost for fuel - and the entire time, they blame the gas station for the increase in gas prices. This was all an eye opener for me as I never gave the process much thought. I don't know how accurate any of this is since my social circle includes only 1 gas station owner.

Sort of unrelated, but in parallel to the rise in fuels costs, they said that credit card companies just increased their take of each transaction (they offer a different cost for cash vs credit). So these facilities are taking a double hit right now and we all know that it will eventually get passed on to the consumer.

I understand. The markup on the gas is actually very low in normal times. 3-5 cents/gallon. Their main business is when customers get into the shop. However, the mark up on non-ethanol is high

its a complicated sector, but in general, the fuel gas stations buy is not set to a price when its refined, its set to a price when delivered. so when there is global instability around big oil producers, voila gas prices go up, very quickly.

in this instance, similar to when trump was in office for completely different reasons, what the president says (we're putting tariffs on x country) what they say is directly linked to the instability.

In response to an earlier comment, Putin did not invade Ukraine because of oil. Putin invaded for a number of reasons. One of the reasons that does not get talked about much in Western media is his mental conditioning by the former Soviet regime and KGB. He is absolutely conditioned (programmed in a sense) to be suspicious of every Western move and to look at it from the angle of "how does the west's move of doing 'x' antagonistic toward Russia." We immigrated from the Soviet Union (miraculous story since we are not Jewish) and, whether Putin knows it or not, he is conditioned to be suspicious, even paranoid, of the West. I think we all can objectively agree that no member of NATO, or NATO itself, had plans for a military offensive against Russia in the future. If it was not evident then, it is now. We won't even step in to stop the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. The west does not want military conflict.

Again, there are a number of reasons Putin went in to Ukraine. And it seems like he is fighting this war the old Soviet way. He has not studied history and is repeating it. Or perhaps, he has only studied history the way Soviets taught it. Which was all propaganda. If I told you what they taught (and did not teach) you would be shocked. I can confirm that, at least as of 20 years ago, the holocaust was not taught in Russia and most people did not know of it. And that is 10 years removed from the collapse of the Iron Curtain.

EDIT: I forgot to include the reason for my post lol. I have a 4Runner TRD ORP on order with KDSS at MSRP. I am waiting for a Lunar Rock. The Long Beach port here is backed up so it may be a while. I think this is a good thing because it will allow me to monitor the gas situation. I will cancel if prices get to high. I am predicting $9 for Los Angeles before the end of the year.
