How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner?

So I'll be coming back to a 4Runner soon. I put a deposit down on a Trail edition in Lunar Rock with TRD exhaust and console safe at a local dealership. It's currently on a ship coming from Japan...not arrived to the States yet.

Did they give you an estimate on how long for you to get it once it docks? Mine docked on June 6th, and they told me 3-5 weeks from then. According to the forum members here, 4 weeks seems about normal once it's docked.

As of June 6th it was put on the vessel from Japan, but it hasn’t docked in the US. I believe mine will come to NY since I live in VA. He said based on other he has had come in that I should see it by the end of July at the latest.

Anybody else know how long it was from when it got put on a vessel?

for $695 you can get EVERY window tinted with nano carbon ceramic tint. such a ripoff but there is no one to blame except the people buying them. if no one bought them they could not charge that kind of money

Agreed.. if everyone reading this wont buy. dealer will have no choice but to lower prices....

in addition, lets start a sticky note for good vs bad dealers..
dealers who sell at msrp or below vs dealer who price gouge.
We will see how long they will last with the gouging...

Just got word that my SR5 Premium is arriving today. Arrived at port on 6/11. Status went from “F” to “G” today and the dealer texted saying it was coming in. This one was hard to find in the Northeast, 3rd row with No moonroof. Paying MSRP in Bennington, VT. Had a deposit with Albany, NY dealer as well since they are different sales/allocation regions.

I've started down the rabbit hole of reaching out to dealers about getting a 4runner, and I can already see now that it's going to be a difficult ride.

Does anyone have recommendations for dealers (happy to fly out wherever, tri-state area preferably) who could have a reasonable lead on a TRD Pro or OFP, before I get that excel table going for real and reach out to 200 dealers?

I'm not sure where they are at with getting 4runners or not, but I had a good experience with Morristown Toyota in NJ when I bought in October 2020. The other close one to me, Paul Miller Toyota, had a few 4Rs last I checked, but had $2500 markups listed on the site.

Looks like Morristown still has the same Army Green Trail I saw last week, but that's it.

Fall 2021- I called over 40 dealers from northern NJ - my experience was upstate NY and Ohio was selling MSRP everyone else $3k-$5k over.

Good experience at bob johnson Toyota in Rochester, NY , got silver ORP at $160 under MSRP, they threw in the black out labels.

Here in PA it seems pretty crazy, even ORP models are $5k+ market adjustments, and searches only return 1-2 in 250miles. Lots of TRD Pro's around, heck some dealers have 2-3 of them but they all want huge market adjustments, or they are forcing you into accessories, make a trade in, 8% financing etc. Some dealers will let you put a deposit on future allocations but they have zero timeline on their arrival. The place I bought my 21' GMC from who at the time not only was under MSRP but honored supplier discounts, is now running $5-10k markups. It's pretty much now the standard around here.

Not just Toyota, I've been browsing Jeep Wranglers, Grand Cherokee's, hell even Kia Tellurides and Hyundai Palisades the girlfriend has been shopping are seeing $5-10k markups around here. I'm not just talking about a couple local dealers either, every dealer that Cars.com etc. returns for 250 miles. I don't even want to think about what Ford dealers must probably adding onto Bronco's now.

Not going to get better either I just saw Toyota had to reduce their estimated output for July almost 8%, that's the third month in a row now they've cut 50k units off their production estimates.

Just purchased a TRD Pro for sticker price yesterday from Romeo Toyota in Glens Falls NY. Great dealer and good bunch of guys there.

When did you put your order in? Literally looking for a 4x4 third row too, don't care for a sunroof.

Put deposit down April 25th and they called me on May 6. The local dealer in Albany was hitting on a few base SR5s with 3rd row and no moonroof, but never landed a premium.

I’m at Kearney Mesa Toyota in San Diego getting service done… the thieves have a USED 2020 Pro on the showroom.

Stickers show supposed “market price” of $71,995 plus some bogus dealer add-ons, bringing it to $75,775.

And they’re not even offering any warranty other than statutorily required implied warranties.

Used. No warranty. $75,775.

Someone should call Toyota Corporate on that bullshit. That's the most outrageous gouge job I've heard yet!

It's unlikely Toyota cares. The games dealers are playing now is insane. The new trick I've been reading about on some forums, and I have no idea how the details work, but it sounds like the dealer is buying the vehicle from the manufacturer and putting it into their dealer company fleet. The car is still new, but when you buy it now, the dealer can do whatever they want to the deal. No idea how they get away with it, but I've read it on more than one manufacturer forum recently of dealers doing this with cars coming into inventory.

We keep hearing from car manufacturers that they are cracking down on this, it's all just PR BS to make customers think manufacturers are on their side. The reality is if the car companies really wanted to enforce say MSRP pricing on the high side, they could do it. You really think a $2 million dollar a yare revenue dealership lawyer is going to win against a room full of $250 billion revenue a year Toyota corporation lawyers? If Toyota really wanted to put the screws to them.

People make the mistake of thinking car manufacturers are hurting because their total vehicle sales are down and cars are in short supply. Take a look at Toyota's annual net revenue, you'll see that only fiscal year 2020 was "bad", and even that was on par with 2015-2016 levels. 2022 fiscal year was Toyota's highest net revenue year ever, profit margins are also higher than they've ever been. These companies are not hurting, they love what's going on, would they like to get more cars to dealerships, sure but they are not in any way hurting.

Ford seems to care...
Ford Is Going After Dealers Caught Price-Gouging As EV Sales Boom

Again all that article is, is Ford chest thumping PR that they are going to stop it. It hasn't stopped, it hasn't even slowed down. Try shopping for a Bronco and let me know how the dealer markups are. Tons of people are showing up for their Bronco orders still and finding out there's a new markup. That or they will sell them the Bronco for MSRP, but you have to buy a 10 year warranty, we put $10k in accessories on it, and you have to use our financing at 10% interest.

If you look further into this you'll find out that even Ford isn't doing much. They are not penalizing dealers for markups, what they are doing is cracking down on dealers putting in fake orders to get vehicles to put on the lot to markup. They call it "name matching" the order, basically they want all the orders to be tied to a real person that Ford/GM will verify. This even happens on fleet vehicles, a dealership will convince a business to order extra vehicles for their fleet and then cancel so many of them when they arrive so the dealer can sell them. That's a racket that's been going on long before vehicle orders were popular.

As far as I've read there's nothing happening to dealers that are charging huge markups or playing other games on vehicles from their allocation that were obtained under normal inventory on their lot. It's only if they fake orders, or they do things to "force" customer orders to be cancelled. Such as telling a Bronco customer picking up their order that the price just went up $20k so the customer abandons it and the dealer gets to put it on the lot for a huge markup. Even then, there's a % of orders that can be cancelled (for any reason) before Ford starts to look into it, last I heard it was 40%, and in 2023 it will bump up to 20%. So right now a dealership can screw 4 out of 10 customers orders to the point they abandon the order, before they are even at risk of anything happening.

The car companies aren't worried about it, they are making tons of $, selling more cars than they can make. Until that changes you won't see them choking the goose that's laying golden eggs for them. Honestly if you want to go down the conspiracy rabbit hole, this could even be part of a plan to turn public opinion against car dealerships sales so manufacturers can adopt a tesla like model and sell direct.

I couldn't post the photos when I was in the dealership because this forum only accepts super-small photos, but here they are.

The vehicle has 10K miles, so does that match the dealer fleet concept above?

Of note, ALL of the vehicles they had on display were used and horribly marked up. Not a single new vehicle on display. I didn't ask if they had new vehicles on the lot, but they may be making more money off used vehicles than new...
