How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner?

Contacted dealer a few days ago…
5-7 month wait and 3k over MSRP due to “current market adjustments for limited availability”

No thanks

San Francisco Toyota had a $3,000 "dealer adjustment" on ORPs and $10,000 on Pros, as did almost every dealer in the area. Except one, so that's where we bought ours. Three week wait, no extra dealer add-on crap,

As long as people keep paying the "Market Adjustment" and the ridiculous "Document Fee" the dealers will keep charging them. I can't stomach either one.

For those of you starting the process of finding a 2023, do yourself a favor and track stock at the dealerships in your area on a spreadsheet.

I've been tracking all of the '23s in the KC metro since MY production began in August. Dealerships around here LOSE allocations because there are not enough customers to buy what the dealers are assigned.

The next time a dealership tells you there is limited supply, a 7 month wait and a market adjustment, you can hand them a list of their own unclaimed allocations that they lost, complete with allocation date, VIN and the date Toyota pulled it from their inventory...and tell them that when they are serious about selling you a rig without all of the lies and BS, to give you a call.

{Snipped for brevity.}

Interesting idea! Where do you find all that information?

Allocations are, from what I have seen, the 15th and 30th of the month (give or take.) They start showing up on dealership websites up to 6 days later...so the August 15th allocation appeared in the local dealer "stock" by/around the 21th, the 30th by/around the 6th.

I write down the VIN, trim, color, stock # (if assigned) and have an Excel spreadsheet tab for each dealership.

In 1-2 allocation cycles, one of three things will happen -

1. A Monroney will be uploaded with the dealer's name on it and the dealership is shipped the rig

2. A Monroney is generated for the dealership but the rig is later reassigned anyway or the converse where another dealer's Monroney is reassigned to a local dealer's stock (I don't know if this is Toyota doing it or if it is a dealer swap - either way this has not happened often.)

3. A Monroney is never generated and the VIN magically disappears from the dealer's "stock." Where did Toyota reassign that rig to, who knows? Doing a Google search using the original VIN leads to a dead end.

I invest about 30 minutes a week doing this. If the dealer I have a deposit with starts pulling BS on my reservation, I'll list the seven (7!) 2023 allocations that have disappeared since MY23 started in August, point out the local dealership that has yet to lose a single allocation and ask them if they want to lose my sale to that rival batting a thousand because I'm not here to play games...

I don't want to gain a dominant position over the dealerships in this transaction. I do insist on a position of equality and information is a good way to level the score.

Thanks! I've seen the stickers on dealer websites but didn't know they had a name.

Now I have to figure out how to win a beer with that tidbit!:D

Anyone else feeling lucky on paying below MSRP on trims other than Pro before vehicle supply chain issues started happening?

No way we're ever going to see a new $38,000 Off-Road again

This was probably the beginning of it. We paid $1,400+/- under monroney (see? I can learn things!) on our Off Road Premium back in 2/2021. So we were quite fortunate to get exactly the color and equipment we wanted.

Good.Job.

Had a similar scenario with my mom's Forrester at the same time, 2/21. Local dealership kept badgering her to trade in her 2017 and get into a new one. After so many calls and letters, I called the dealership and told them we'd show up for $500 over invoice on a 2021. They said yes.

Good riddance. That 2017 had some real funkiness with the CVT and rear diff.

Yeah, idk how I scored a trd off-road prem xp predator package for $38,500 lol back in 2018.
It was practically $10k below msrp

Yeah no way that'll ever happen again. We're that much more careful with our 2018 ORP now.

Of course it will. Markets are always shifting. Before long, car lots will be loaded with vehicles and dealers will be begging for sales. Things have already shifted.
