How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner?

with respect to "MSRP", does anyone know if there's a wider spread between MSRP to dealer acquisition cost today, versus pre-covidmania? A wider spread percentage could also be a way to hide additional mark-up/profit.

I paid full MSRP for my 2023 OR in December in Iowa. At the time I was shopping around back in October/November, it seemed like 20 to 25 percent of dealers I talked with refused to sell to out of state buyers, and maybe 30% of dealers were asking over MSRP, or they were tacking on extra cheesy fees for things like undercoating or fabric treatments. I made the 5+ hour drive to the dealer in Iowa since it was about the only option within about 1,000 miles of me.

I'm sure an industry insider could put this more eloquently, but my understanding is that the dealer acquisition cost to MSRP spread has not increased. Rather, dealers make money on per unit kickbacks and by hitting volume targets (if they are able to sell above MSRP that would be extra profit for them of course).

If someone is looking for a “deal” they really should look at something other than a 4Runner.

I have purchased more new vehicles than I can even count, and I take pride in being able to negotiate the deal better than most people. This said, I paid MSRP and I’m actually ok with that. The 4Runner is such a fantastic vehicle that it’s worth every penny and I’d do the same again in a heartbeat. In fact, I’m a little disappointed in myself for not making it happen sooner.

Agreed! When I purchased new vehicles for my wife in 2018 and 2020, I negotiated aggressively with local dealers and paid 13 to 23 percent below MSRP.

But I don't feel bad about paying full MSRP for the 4Runner, considering the quality, reliability, and capabilities of the 4Runner.

Paying only MSRP right now **is** kind of a deal, as used 4Runners have been costing more than new (and if not any longer, then this only changed recently), around 60% of people are paying more than MSRP right now for new vehicles period, and many dealers are adding huge markups to 4Runners of $5K - $15K+ over.

MSRP + $1000.

Would not have paid that much but this had exactly the options I wanted and none that I didn’t.

I'm guessing if one wants a "deal" they should look beyond Toyota/Lexus and even Honda/Acura. The best deal I found for my current 2013 4runner 4x4 limited, was mid' $30's in 2014. Koon's Toyota in Virginia, had a shipment of new previous year 4runners in and I snagged one. I live in Ohio and it was worth the price of a cheap one-way ticket to VA and drive back. I still saved $4500 over the cheapest price (for a 13) locally.

Are you saying buy Korean or American?
Given Toyotas supply chain issues — unique to them since Honda says they are now out of the worst — it’s unlikely their prices will come down since supply is constricted. Which means dealers can continue charging whatever and customers would pay. I think off MSRP days are gone for Toyota at least for next couple of years.

How many hours or days constitutes “negotiating aggressively”

Trd pro

Looking to get This thing going again. Almost had a TRD Pro black but dealer wouldn’t budge with the dealership extended warranty added on to the price. So 3k above MSRP. Looking back I should’ve jumped on it after looking around at all the other markups other dealers have. Anybody getting anywhere with TrD Pros closer to MSRP? I was told even if I ordered one it would most likely have to include the dealer extended warranty as well.

Outside of the Fox suspension, why are you wanting to go with Pro over Off-Road Premium if you're going to get a non-Pro specific color? The ORP is a great deal if you intend on getting a basic color and plan to upgrade the suspension later.

Agree with gakattack. TRD Off Road Premium gives you all of the goodies without the price tag. You can also opt for or against the KDSS system. I personally opted for and dig it. Gives you more flexibility for mods after purchase without deleting expensive factory options.

Ours has KDSS too! Wife and I love it.

2023 SR5 2WD: $35,440 out the door, without state registration. One week ago.
MSRP $39,640.
$35,440 was the initial "out the door" asking price on the web.
One more identical vehicle was sold at the same price at the same place.

I am constantly surprised at how stable the KDSS keeps the 4Runner in turns at speed and with a heavy load.

I didn’t want KDSS, but found a “used” 2022 with 600 miles -with everything else I wanted on it, but had KDSS. Needless to say, I’m impressed with this option. I’ve also installed the Dr. KDSS module and connected it to my SwitchPro. Together with the Bilstein 6112 / 5100 shocks & springs, it’s a perfect setup.

I'm guessing if someone is looking for a deal, Toyota is probably not the brand. Currently, Toyota has the lowest inventory of all the major brands. Unless one is in dire need of transportation, my guess is to wait. I saw a sad video yesterday on youtube where a lady ordered a new Bronco last year and agreed to pay MSRP. The dealer called the lady a few months later and told her the truck was scheduled to arrive, HOWEVER, there would be an additional $10,000 market adjustment.

How would you like to wait 2ish years from reservation to deposit to build to delivery only to have it show up with a $25k markup?
