How much $ for brakes?

I have a 2003 Limited 4WD V8. What is a fair price for front and rear brake replacement?

Do I want to get any specific brand of parts?

Thanks

i spent about 150-175 on ebc brake pads front and rear shipped from summit racing. thats the 6000 series green stuff.
it really depends too. or u just doing pads? or the whole rotors also?

Do you mean to have someone else do it? It's hard to say what they'll run into on a vehicle as old as ours. Places will often want to sell you turning or replacing rotors. Make sure they know there are common problems with the front calipers sticking on this vehicle.

Make sure if you have an independent shop do it that they torque everything down correctly. T4R are picky about the wheels being torqued down too tight causing the feeling of warped rotors. Depending on you driving style and area you live in I would recommend toyota OEM pad or better like EBC. Don't fall for the 99 dollar brake job cause it will cost you more in the long run.

OEM pads are my only choice.

no matter DIY or have a shop do it, make sure you have the old fluid flushed out. when I reset the caliper pistons, I always open up the bleeder first, then push the piston back in so all the dirty stuff is going out instead of being pushed back to the ABS block. of couse I'll flush and bleed the whole system after all the new pads are on. Toyota pads can last 60-70K miles easily, and they are pretty good on not producing much of dust.

Re: Brakes

I am having my trusted mechanic do it. My Runner only has 47,000 miles, but the brake pedal is pulsing quite a bit and the truck does not stop well. I am thinking of using OEM Toyota pads. Any other suggestions?
