How Much to Repalce Brake Pads

My brakes are starting to squeak a bit, making me think that it may be time to replace the pads all the way around. What kind of cost am I looking at to do a brake pad replacement on an '06 4WD at a dealership?

The 4Runners brakes are fairly easy to do yourself. You can pick up a set of pads for all four corners for less than $100. Buy a twelve pack, call a friend and you can knock it out in a few hours.

I paid over $200 to have my mechanic do just the front pads!!! I was pissed when I got the bill, I could have done it myself for under $70. I would guess you are looking at every bit of $300, prob more since it is the stealership.

yeah doing just the pads is pretty easy....its doing the rotors that is more of a hastle.

How many miles are on your 4Runner? The reason I ask is because I have an '06 4WD as well. Mine has 40k miles on it and I never tow anything nor offroad.

Even if you don't own any tools, you can probably buy the tools and the parts for less than the dealer will charge you.

A decent floorjack is a great investment if you don't already own one. Harbor Freight has some good deals on them. Pickup some jackstands if you dont already have them and it's not hard to do.

Frozen calipers have been a problem with the early 4runners. I had mine changed under warranty at 60K, but had to pay the labor for the rotors to be cut. Calipers arn't cheap.

Callipers for the 04 Runners

Guys..my 04 T4R has 90K miles and requires both the front and back brakes to be replaced along with the rotors. The dealership says it'll be close to 590 for the front ones and 450 for the rear ones..however the technician did say that i should look to see if i have extended warranty as the callipers have been a biatch for most of the 4th geners. the callipers cost 290+..has anyone had issues with their callipers? does anyone think its wise to get an extended warranty just to sidestep any potential issues with the callipers??

Rough milage on brake pads

I have an 05 V8 4WD with 48K. Brakes have been great so far, I haven't had any issues at all. I know everything depends on driving, which i feel i drive pretty hard, but i have not towed anything yet. Question is what was your milage when you had your brake pads done? Just wondering im sure i'll have to have them done soon.

Few hours??!! Maybe an hour or two. They are ridiculously easy to change. I can change out the front rotors and pads in 30-45 minutes. Pads only, and you're looking at 5 min per side (not taking into account dismounting the wheels).

I can't say about mileage on brakes for my '08 Sport but on my 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen 4Runners (and the other 3 Toyotas I've owned), 100,000 + miles on brake pads have been the norm for me; 65,000 was the worst on a Camry that my wife drove in town.

+1 on either doing it yourself or getting a buddy to help.

I just had my front and rear pads done for $293.06. I see you guys talking about the frozen calipers. My 04 was making a humming/rumbling noise when I was braking. The stealership told me I needed a new caliper in the front, $408 each. They wanted to replace both front rotors and calipers, along with pads on the front and back. For a grand total of $2100.

So I took it to my cousin's shop and he said all I needed was the 4 pads. After the 4 pads it runs great, no noises or anything. Get a second opinion from someone who wont screw you.
