How much value does a 'Toyota Certified' 4runner have over a non-certified???

I've been looking aroud for a 03-04 4Runner in the $23k range. I want lower miles (20-40K),SR5 or Sport, and V8. I've found a few close that price and one was Toyota Certified. I'd say that this probably adds between 1 and 2 grand to the price... But Certified used cars have the added feature of being able to add an extended Toyota factory warranty with a low deductible (or $0 deductible) after the factory warranty expires. Privately sold cars (non-certified) usually require aftermarket warranties (if you choose this coverage) which can be difficult to negotiate.

Also be wary that this vehicle says "drivers side airbag" and "passengers side airbag"... This probably means two airbags, not the Air Curtain Safety System or the seat deployed airbags. I didn't see any tag on the seat for the seat deployed air bags.

I picked up my 03 as a certified used and was able to increase the warranty to 7 yrs. 100000 miles, no deductible bumper to bumper for $900. Truck had 25k onit when I got it, so 75k miles or till 2010 coverage. Im not much of a gambler but to ensure coverage for as long as I got it sits well with me. Oh yeah this warranty is through Toyota not an outside insurer.

I'm not sure if a certified adds value as in if you trade in two identical vehicles and one is certified and one isn't if you will get more for the certified one but I think when I got my 03 back in June It's a SR5 V8 with 40k miles and it was certified actually looked like it was never driven but that is neither here nor there, anyway I only paid 18,9 with a 16,5 trade-in so I wouldn't spend much more than 20k personally and I think the certified warranty of 10 years from the manufacture year or 100,000 warranty was only like 900-1200 I think . Because when I went to the stealership my trade started at 12 even and the truck was 23,5. I've carfaxed the truck and it's in mint condition so thats my .02 cents good luck with your search.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I would be better off looking for a certified 4runner as I would be interested in the extended warranty from Toyota.

No I don't have a carfax account anymore I know on a couple of my other auto related forums the guys will share their carfax accounts so if I see anyone doing it I will be sure to ask them for you. And I'll PM you the report or e-mail it to you depending on how I receive it.
