How Often Do You Guys Clay?

It is a good idea to claybar even new cars. They can often have rail dust or other pain imperfections from travel. And you can't really hurt the car by claybaring it as long as you are putting a nice coat of wax back on the finish.

Hard to answer since it depends on how dirty it gets but I tend to clay about every other wax job.

About twice a year. I like Clay Magic brand.
I'll wash the vehicle twice.
Then I use a bucket of warm water and car wash to lube the bar. Put the bar in the bucket to make it soft.
After I clay with the bar and bucket an warm car wash, I'll wash again and dry.
Then polish and wax.

So I have a 03 Runner SR5
Clayed (Sonus) for the first time and used Meguiars Deep Crystal System to finish it off. I must say the sonus clay bar did a great job as did the Meguiars Paint Cleaner and Polish, but I'm not so sure about the wax that came with the system. Only time will tell I guess, anyone else used this system before? Any better wax?
And BTW used Meguiars scratch x on the water spots which did a good job of removing the bulk but not all.

Have you ever clayed? If you haven't you may change your mind after doing it. The paint is as smooth as a baby's a$$. And the polish/wax/sealer goes on that much better and easier.
It does not take that much time and after doing it I totally think it is worth it even if you do it only once every year or two.

Yeah i don't like the wax in the three step system. try gold class or nxt.....both are good but nxt lasts longer.

I'm not saying that claying is bad, I'm just saying that my paint is usually kept pretty much free of contaminents. A cleaner wax is generally all that I need if the paint begins to feel a bit rough.
I just hand washed (I don't use commercial car washes) my 4Runner this past Saturday, and when I was drying it, the dry microfiber towels slid right off the hood.
Claying is rubbing the vehicle paint with what looks like a plasticine clay. It removes dirt and oxidation from the finish. It is like using an abrasive polish only milder.

I clayed my black Runner's after every winter....black is tricky, because you don't see many of the spots until after you wax....but you also don't want to do it TOO often.
The silver and lighter colours may need it more often, depending on the weather and road conditions in your area.

I clayed my wife's 01' celica after some front end body work, (no she doesn't drive my runner), finish went from sandpaper feel, to baby butt smooth. I used Mothers clay, the stuff is simply amazing I also clayed my runner the day I got it, I thought it would be a waste of time,..... lots of crap in the paint, the clay was loaded with small specks of ?
