In the summer it gets a good handwash every few weeks but in the winter it gets cleaned whenever the weather is nice for more than a week but it gets run through a car wash after every snowstorm right away after the roads are clear.

Ron , do the use salt or sand on the roads where you are ?

I keep my truck pretty spotless , I wipe it down a few times a week with a quick detailer , wash atleast once a week weather permitting.
 
I try to wash it once a week, but with our water ban it's difficult other than going to the car wash, which costs so much dang money.

Anyway, I don't wash it enough. :(
 
I like to keep the whip looking fresh, but I used to love back in the day after off-roading, and my car would be coated with mud. Grew out of those days though. Cleaning off mud in 30 degree weather is a major PITA. Before we moved, my car sat outside all the time, but now it has its own garage space, so the upkeep level has lowered significantly.
 
Trying to be more "eco-friendly" by only washing once per month... Have a really great coat of Zaino I put on twice a year to protect everything that is painted.

I have heared good things about that zaino stuff. Is it really that awesome. Will it get out swirl marks and all that good stuff?

Here in Colorado Springs, they use sand and gravel on icy roads.

Zaino is incredible stuff. I have used it on different vehicles for about 8 years. The best thing is that the finish is very resistant to environmental acids (bird poop, sap, etc). It does take a while to put on correctly and it is not cheap, but it gives a really nice result.
 
back when i had a hose hook up at my place. washed her once a week. now that ive discovered the hose hook up at the new complex, i "plan" on washing her every week-week 1/2. nothing looks better then a clean car. after drives up the pass i hose her off but i NEVER use a car wash. brutal on your ride

I'm not Ron, but I live in his 'hood so I'll chime in....

In Colorado, they have been using magnesium chloride (mag chloride for short) for a while now. It is basically a liquid equivalent to salt. They still put gravel down but does not have near the salt content that you see back east. I haven't experienced anything like what you see in the "rust belt" from the mag chloride, but I try to get it off of my car ASAP when I can. It also leaves a nasty film on your windows when it dries.

I do a full hand wax/detail in the spring and in the fall, right before they start putting crap down on the roads here. I only do the hand washing in the summer, but like Ron, I try to run it through a car wash after the roads clear up.
 
lazy eco-friendly

About 3 or 4 times a year. But I wax twice a year and change the oil regularly. it's not about what on the outside, but it is the inside that counts... (At least that is what I keep telling myself).

ZPC is their swirl remover or polish. Z2 and Z5 are their sealants, though they call them polish they are not as they do not contain abrasives. Z5 contains fillers to hide swirls, though it will not remove them. Overall great products though.

You guys have a water ban in Georgia!? What does that entail?
 
I keep my 4Runner clean constantly, which means a quick detail about twice a week.

I use Optimum No Rinse, so I can "wash" it in the garage without a hose, very little water, and it takes me about 20 minutes.

I love ONR!
