How often should you wax

Just wondering how often you should wax the 4Run..i use turtle wax..

It really varies based on the weather and how you keep the truck (in a garage? carport? outside? under a tree?). Wax can last from a couple of weeks to several months.

One wax manufacturer advises using a towel -- wad it up, move it across the surface. If it squeaks, then it needs wax. Personally, I try to put a coat of Zaino's on every 6 months. My truck lives in a garage, so the Zaino's lasts longer.

When water doesn't bead off anymore and just stays in sheets over flat surfaces. For me, typically it comes out to every 2-3 months for a car parked outside and 2-3 times a year for a car garaged.

Just an observation here from a new 07' Sport owner.

The paint coat right off the lot needs some serious waxing... I'm going to hit it soon as it really has no luster to speak of.

Hmmm... Don't you have a clear coat finish? I have Titanium metallic and after I wash and dry it off with soft towels it sparkles. BTW, I have never waxed it and would never put it through a automatic car wash

Clear coats should be waxed too.

Yes, automatic car washes are for lazy people who have no respect for their vehicles. They can scratch paint, loosen or even tear off moulding plus they don't even do a good job. If you won't or can't wash it yourself, hire some kid to do it.

A synthetic polymer protectant like Zaino's will last a lot longer than a wax.

Unfortunately, asking how often to wax is a lot like asking how often you should wash your car. Like someone stated above, it depends on your specific situation. There really can't be a universal rule.

Personally, my vehicles are garaged unless I'm at work, and they see average numbers of miles yearly. I keep them relatively clean via hand-washing. For wax, I have been using Klasse All in One and the Sealant Glaze. This stuff lasts me 6 months at most, so a 4-5 month interval would be ideal. I always use a clay bar before the wax.

For me, one of life's great pleasures is washing your car and feeling the wash towel slide across the paint like the paint was made of hot butter. Oooooooh yes.:dancin:

This is what I did as soon as I got mine.

I washed using an alkaline solution; I added TSP to a standard car washing cleaner to make it alkaline. Then clayed and finally put on a couple of coats of synthetic polymer (Zaino's).
