How often to change engine oil

Not OEM Filter? Nothing against NAPA... Just based on what I know about you, I wouldn't think you would do a NAPA filter

Is the NAPA synthetic cheaper than OEM?

Look at an analysis of the NAPA filter. It is a quality filter which I believe is made by WIX. I would not hesitate to use one. They are actually more expensive than an OEM(~$12 vs the ~$4 I pay for my OEM's).

5k on regular oil is quite fine. I ran regular Pennzoil(the one which according to hillbilly myths is supposed to sludge your engine to the point of failure) with OEM filters for my first 90k on 5k intervals. I had no sludge issues when I finally switched to Pennzoil Platinum. Mind you, this 5VZ is driven quite "spiritedly", or probably a bit past that. Toyota's maintenance schedule is quite effective IMO. There is a point after so many years where you need to take certain maintenance routines into your own hands since there is only a certain time period that their maintenance schedule covers.

Maybe I'm crazy. I change my dino oil every 3k. I'm lately considering a move over to Mobil1 synthetic.

Up here at my local dealer, their "Express Lube" oil change price is only $7 more than me doing it myself so I take it there and don't have to worry about disposal afterward.
OEM Toyota filter, oil and a new crush washer every time.
Oh and since I've had my '78 Celica and '89 4Runner serviced there, I've always gotten great service and my service adviser that I dealt with for 28 yeras, up until he retired last year always gave me the seniors discount even though I'm nowhere near retirement age.
That's service and now I have to slowly break in a new guy. At least the shop foreman knows me.

I´ve been using NAPA/Wix filters in everything I have owned, from BMW´s to Farmall tractors, since about 1974. They have a 100% perfect performance record--all my engines outlived the cars they came in. The oversize NAPA Platinums I use cost more than OEM, but they have more and better media. I didn´t drink the OEM Kool-Aid like a lot on here; I try to avoid dealers as much as possible.

I agree NAPA filters are great. Our dealer used them for the last 13 years. No filter related problems. MB1 filters are great also. I use the high performance AC Delco gold filters on my G8. I've never taken apart a filter better built than one.

There is no such thing as a standard set mileage for an oil change as it totally depends on numerous factors.

First is whether or not its synthetic or petroleum.
Second is type of driving you are doing.

If its Petroleum for me personally I would NEVER let petroleum go past 3000 miles period even if it was 80% highway miles.

Synthetic I usually change mine right around 5000 miles or less but that is really because of TIME factor more than MILES as I usually only drive between 4000-5000 miles in a year and I change the oil at that year interval even if it only has 100 miles on it.
If I were to change my oil with good 100% Synthetic just before going on a 9000+ mile cross country trip where it is 98% highway miles then I would have no problems letting the oil go 9000 easily.
Doing the same with Petroleum I would NEVER let it go 9000, I would actually hate to let it go 4500 so that I would only have to change the oil once instead of twice to go the 9000 miles.

Everyday stop and go short trip type city driving I would probably not let it go much if any past 6000 with synthetic.
Not a mile past 3000 with petroleum.
