How or when does KDSS kick in?

I quoted your post from 12:12 at 12:17 although technically "in the past" you eluded after being told multiple time that you still didnt understand how a person ENGAGES it.

There is no surf in Arizona, originally from Cali and my 4Runner has the ability to cross state lines with out being ENGAGED.:boink:

Thanks for the link. It's a good illustration of the working parts of the KDSS system and how it works. It's not a service manual, but refers to the service manual for detailed info on how to bleed the KDSS system and other repair operations.

Given the pressures within the system that they're listing it seems like it's not a good idea to release the pressure and try to recharge the system on your own without the manual and the right tools. Takes 6 quarts of oil too. Some people might be tempted to do this when installing a lift but there are other ways to install a lift without de-pressurizing the system.

Very few ever look at stickies. The only ones who do usually know the answer to the questions already. Stickies are useless. Telling people to search is useless. People complaining about people telling them to search is useless. Most just want to be quickly spoon fed the exact answer to their question so they can get on with their entitled lives as they never stick around to learn something so they can help other people. OP this is not directed at you. My ignorant people rant of the day.

Amen, and amen. I got criticized awhile back by politely directing someone to the "here's how to search" sticky. My reply was "I only spoonfeed babies....". Got criticized for that too.

There's a list in my mind of words in the subject line that are threads I try not to read. "KDSS", "build", "lift", "rub", "tire/s", "I searched but...", "Weathertech", "tint", ....... It's just like child-rearing, time to let the young'uns take over the spoonfeeding.

David is a good salesman, but unfortunately I don't think he knew what KDSS is or how it works. That may be why he calls me once a month, for free training sessions. He knows about the Xreas but not much about KDSS. He's trying hard to find me the car I want. Eventually I'll go in there and order the car, to be built and shipped from Toyota, knowing the fair price before I do. Soon enough... :wink2:

And I have to add that I love KDSS on the road! Its obvious performance gives me trust that wheel travel is greater off-road too though I can't as easily compare from experience.

It's a completely passive system, constantly active. When one wheel goes up enough, and the other goes down enough as determined by the hydraulic sensors, the system simply "disengages" the sway bar. You have no control over it other than deciding where to drive. It is speed sensitive. According to the service manual, the KDSS system is tied into the vehicle speed sensor, wheel speed sensors, steering position sensor.

I know this is an old thread, but I have been researching KDSS for a while and the consensus was that the sway system went "flaccid" (lol) below a certain speed. This is across multiple forums, and even web articles, that said this.

How you describe KDSS works is how it appears to work. It would make ZERO sense for Toyota to put KDSS on their Baja 4runners if the sway system disengaged below 10 or 12mph. I am very happy I finally found a post that explains KDSS properly. I am ordered a KDSS 4Runner and I had been thinking about canceling the KDSS option because I was starting the buy in to the 10-12mph story.
