How realistic is this

So, i have read, and heard alot of talk abou the longevity of the stock dunlops. Realistically speaking, is it possible to have the tires last the lengh of my lease. Keep in mind that i am entitled to drive 45k w/o going over the alloted amount.

My driving habbits are non-aggresive (sometimes) with no real offroading and w/o taking turns real hard with having them rotated every 4k miles

I realize that the lease co. will charge me for serious wear on the tires. So, would it be better to buy a new set (revo's) and switch them on and off before i return the car?

My wife recently returned her Cavalier after leasing it for 4 years. She put on a total of 40,000kms over the life of the lease and we never changed her tires. In the end, we were still charged $120.00 for one tire because it was worn down too much. So, in a nutshell, my opinion is that you will likely have to replace the tires once.
 
Efing lease co.'s. I mean my previous car had about 34k when i gave it back, and the co. actually gave me a 1500 dollar le-way (spelling) for damage. I just don't think that the current one that i am on (wells fargo) will do the same.

Oh well, new tires here i come
 
Drew, I don't think you will have the Dunlop's for even half of your lease. I had no choice but to change mine at 17,500 miles and my driving habits seem the same as yours. Just think about it though, even if you are lucky and get 20,000 miles on your Dunlop's, you will still have put on 25,000 miles on the new tires. It is not really a total waste of money when you think about it. If you want to be really cheap, save the Dunlop's and put them back on when you return your truck. :D
 
This is what you do. Buy new tires right now, put them on and use them to the end of the lease. That way, you'll have had the use of nice tires on your nice T4R. SLap the dunlops back on and send em back! :D

I have a better solution. Just buy the damn truck :p.

You know you want a lift, new tires, jacuzzi, etc but you keep bringing up the excuse that it's a lease. Find out what the buyout is and see if it makes financial sense. If it doesn't, go to the dealer and see if they can help you out. They have much more pull with the leasing companies than a single consumer would. Maybe they'd be able to work out a trade to a 05 V8. Without JBL ;):.
 
revos are what 60k tires so swap them on at 10k, drive on the revos for 35k to get the best life out of them and give the truck back with OK looking tires;):

or sell them so you can get a little money back. No need to waste here. :P or send them to me and i'll make good use of it! We have 10 dunlops here.. i'm sure I could use 5 more. :D
 
Yup, they are 17's. But if i were to get revo's i would keep the stock rubber, and switch them back onto the rig before i give them back.

As far as a buyout, these efing crooks wanted 9% apr for the truck. For that money they can go and ef themselvs.

As far as doing a "swap" transaction with them, were you referring to when the lease is up, or almost up. And the car co. would actually help me out with the

A: speaking to the finance co. about the lease, and possible buyout
B: As far as the trade in, wouldn't i have to buy it first then trade it

Don't mean to sound retarded, but this whole lease thing is still very knew to me
 
I have 32K on my stock Dunlops and will probably get another 6K to 8K out of them easy. I am in mild off-road situations most every weekend and tow often with it. Tires have been rotated every 5K.
 
I just turned in my 2002 jetta (on lease) and all 4 original tires were within "acceptable" levels after 34,000 miles.

and these were the low profile "sport package tires". I was very suprised they passed. But depending on who you are leasing thru, their standards may be different in how strictly they enforce things.

You shouldn't be too concerned about the end of lease things like this til the end. Replace the tires if you believe they are unsafe, otherwise...there is no sense in buying a second set of tires unnecessarily. Save your money for other things and at the end, if they inspect the car and determine the tires need to be replaced, buy the cheapest set of tires you can get and throw 'em on. The terms of your lease only state an acceptable level of tread that must remain, not that they have to be the same brand/make tires as orginally provided.

I learned this lesson the hard way on my first leased car. I had a leased 1998 Acura Integra in high school and not knowing any better I assumed that I had to replace the tires with the same kind. Ended up spending hundreds more than I had to. When I turned the car in, the lease agent asked me why I replaced it with such expensive tires just to turn it in. He could barely hold back from laughing at loud at me.
 
lol, that is a funny thought. Some bean counter laughing at you for spending more money. Me (being an accountant) always tries to find a way to maximize a dollar and allocarte it where it is best suited. Not to mention, prepare for a rainy day. I.E. spending money when you least expect it.

The reason the thought has come up in my head is b/c everyone is switching them out at like 10-15k miles and not thinking twice about it. And since this is my first big purchase, and dealing with a diff. lease co than i did in the past, i am always concerned.

And plus, Bobby has informed me that soon costco will be having a sale on the Revo's so it is the perfect time to buy them and just hold them. Now, this maybe a stupid question, but if bought them and just kept them in my garage w/o putting them on, is there a strict return policy for them?

Obviously i am not going to hold onto them for 2 years, but just in case i find a better price on them, do they take them back w/i an acceptable lenght of time
 
Chunderboy - Anything is possible. You should talk to a dealer (a good one) and see what they can do for you. It's a pretty good time now since oil is up over $57/barrel and consumers aren't buying SUVs like they used to. You should have some equity in the truck now and flipping it for a new one or getting the dealer to buy out the lease on your current truck, then sell it to you shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Don't buy tires unless you want to put them on. It'll be more expensive to have them mounted later after you buy them. I don't know if they'll honor the warranty either.


HuntRunner - that's the most I've heard of on a set of Dunlops. How are they holding up?

I will probably be replacing them in a few months, but they surprised me too. Other than traction complaints while in mud and snow, they have held up well. There was another person that posted here in the past (hiluxsurf) that even has me beat, they replaced their stock Dunlops @ 39K.

I've had my dunlops on for 32,000miles already and I haven't had a problem with it. We get all the seasons here... sometimes all at once... and I'm beginning to notice that they wouldn't go through another winter as I would like a little bit more traction.

Great summer tires though.... vrroommm :D
 
i have 43,500 miles on the original dunlops and they need to be changed out, but not desperately. you may make it. however, the PO of my truck was not a hard driver i think.
