OK-

More to come later- but- I blew this 140a fusible link in the underhood fusebox.

The other links pull out. This one- I can't get the sucker out. Are there tabs or something? I dont want to f it up more...Thx

**EDIT** My solution on post #42. This fuse is bolted in from behind!

Do I see a tab to release it?

I hope it didn't weld itself in! :bash:

The tabs you see are for the lid.
I'm confident it didn't weld- the fuse burnt clean. I'm at dealer now and they are telling me it's screwed in from the back. Yay!!!

Let it go. Antman does not want to talk about it. :-)

I've seen this scenario before and been involved in it a few times and it always starts with "Here, hold my beer and watch this".

:zoom:

Nah- it's not that exciting, really. I will let you guys know once I have it fixed.

I have a feeling an Antman tutorial is in the works for how to take the damn fusebox apart- assuming my truck doesn't melt first.

You DO NOT want to know how I'm driving around with a blown 140(!) amp fuse under the hood. Nope- don't wanna know that...yet. LOL

Any of you guys know for sure how that thing comes out? I'm gonna start tearing into things in a bit.:thanks:

Fuse box is IMPOSSIBLE- like a puzzle.

I dunno- I'm gonna get a new fuse and go from there. I seriously can't figure out how to get the box apart without breaking stuff...

Yeah- thank you! I actually just found that post and I'm gonna do it.

For inquiring minds...

I ALWAYS disconnect the battery before I start any electrical work!

Today I removed my 100a alternator and replaced it with bimrunner 's 130a which he shipped me after the alternator group buy. Great guy- thank you!

Anyway, while wrestling with the alternator, my elbow pushed the battery cable into contact with the studded + terminal of the battery (I have a marine dual terminal battery). Just so happened the power wire to the alternator was grounded. The sparks were very pretty!

Anyway- I messed with the fuse box for 5 hours, took out all kinds of crap, took apart all kinds of crap and you know what? F it. What a joke. No reason for Toyota to do this other than to require dealer service to replace. Thanks.

I'll bypass that POS fuse and run a 4 ga wire from the battery to the Fusebox 10mm terminal and use a 140a circuit breaker.

The alternator install went smoothly otherwise- just a little difficult to get that rear bracket bolt out - you can see it in the pics. I used a short socket, universal joint, some extensions and an impact and I won (minus a busted to hell hand).

Overall, it was worth it for 1/3 more power! I just gotta be more careful- think I'm gettin' old, lol.

Just want you to know that is Rubicon dust not just ordinary dirt. It's like ferry dust and makes your rig pretty much a rock crawling beast.
