How to add heated side mirrors to an SR5 ?

According to Partznet, the mirrors with the heating element are available, but I'm wondering if they are capable of being retrofitted onto a stock SR5 mirror.

Since I don't have a Sports Edition or Limited, I'm assuming that you guys have a switch inside the cabin to activate it, or does it come on when you crank up the heat ?

Any pics of the switch (probably located in the steering column) would be helpful.

The heated mirrors actually turn on when you press the rear window defrost button. I've only used them twice since I got my '05, but they are VERY effective and are very fast to melt any ice that is on the mirrors.

Thanks for the clarification. It might sound a bit absurd asking about defrosting frozen side mirrors when I'm in SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA but an upcoming road trip to British Columbia + any jaunts up to Mammoth or even Colorado, heated side mirrors will come in handy for sure.
 
Like Derek said they come on when you put the rear defroster on. I would bet they are plug-n-play but as far as I know that is not confirmed.

On my Sienna though I accidentally bought a non heated mirror when my wife broke it on the garage and that is when I found out that it DID have heated mirrors as the plugs were different.
 
Really... I didn't even know they had heated mirrors. Is that the case for all 4th gens? I have an 04 SE, never really used the rear defrost..so never noticed.

All '03 and up SE's and limited's have the heated mirrors.

Some, but not all, SR5's have heated mirrors. At the initial introduction of the 4th gen some were getting them with the SR5 and some were not.
 
it all depends on the harness
some sr5 have the harness that will fit heated mirrors some dont
i was lucky mine had it show me a pic of your mirror plug and i let you know

Can you give me a quick write-up of how to access the mirror plug and I'll post a pic.

you have to take off the door panel in order to access the mirror
i believe there is 2 clips on the bottem 2 screws in back of the arm rest and 2 by the mirrors once you remove the panel you will see the mirrors screws maybe ill post some pics if i can get my camera to work but any questions just ask

i didnt forget about u i just dont have a digital camera yet was hoping to get one for xmas but the wife got me cloths instead
will buy one this week and this will give me a great excuse to use my camera

Thanks for the upcoming pics, Franco. I really want to do the side mirrors too but am waiting on your install pics. Not quite sure how to get the door panel off. Looked it over but kinda scared of ripping it off.

Thanks sharp4runr, that's exactly what I was hoping for. Do you mind if I ask what book this was scanned from? I was looking for a comprehensive repair manual that would help me assemble or disassemble the vehicle if I needed to. I tried looking for the Chilton manual at my local shop but they don't have it and they said they don't plan to carry any of the newer ones.
 
to take the door panel go to the muth website there are great pics and instructions there muth signal mirrors you will need adobe reader to view trust me there are 2 screws and 1 clip to remove the door panel or you can remove the mirror glass and check if there are the heat connectors in the mirror housing
 
No clue what book those came out of. I found them on the forum while perusing for new mods. :)

They do look like they came from the FSM though
