How to Adjust OEM Roof Rack Cross Bars?

Does anyone know how to adjust or remove the cross bars on the OEM TRD Pro roof rack?

I tried to hand twist the knobs to unlock it but it's on their pretty tight. Not sure if I need to use a wrench/pliers to unscrew the mounts holding down the cross bars.

Not sure about that style ,I used a rubber mallet & little wd40 ! Have to remove end caps on mine but as I said not sure on those !

They may be pretty tight from installation (the Pro roof racks are installed at port of entry, not the factory). It is OK to use a wrench on them if you can't loosen them by hand.

I was worried that they may come loose and get lost if only hand tightened, so I bought some spares just in case that I keep in the glove box. They are the same knob that is used on the FJ Cruiser.

Another suggestion. The cross bars are fairly far apart, so I bought three extra so there is essentially a platform on the bottom rail. The part numbers for the cross bars and the knobs are shown in the installation instructions.

Check out this thread below - someone 3D printed an adjustment wrench and it looks pretty cool.
