How to Build a Sleeping and Storage Area for your 4Runner

I've posted this a couple times over the years on 3rd Gen 4Runner Mafia on Facebook but I don't think I've posted this here. I wanted to share my build for a custom storage and sleeping area for the 3rd Gen 4Runners. It's been a few years since I've built this so unfortunately my knowledge is dwindling on all the smaller details but fortunately I have the entire thing documented here for all of you to check out:

I've since sold my 4Runner but I'm planning on getting in another one. When I do, i'll be building another one of these with some design and functionality tweaks.

Thanks for sharing! That's pretty cool. How tall are you? I'm about 6' and wondering if I'd have enough length to sleep in the 4Runner...haven't tried putting the seats down to see how much room I'd have yet...

I know someone on this forum that is 6' 4". He's able to sleep in the back to diagonal.

As someone who's 6'4" (and slept crunched up in the back of an XJ jeep), it's FAR nicer to have more room... that said, there's no reason you can't run the front seat all the way forward and have a flip-out extension to provide the extra space. Heck, if you're traveling alone there's no reason to have a front passenger seat.

That's what we do, but that was mostly decided by needing room for the fridge. Makes set up and tear down longer though.
