How to change headlight auto off delay?

Hi all,

How do I change the headlight auto off delay on a 2003 4Runner? The owner's manual said that the headlight will turn off automatically after 30 seconds (after all doors are closed and the key in LOCK) and the delay time can be changed but it didn't say how. How do I change it for, said 10 seconds?

It must be something simple, like keyon-keyoff, light-on, light-off that kind of things. Anybody got a Toyota shop manual? It must be in there somewhere...

Yes, but that's not really what I want. When I park at work, I don't want to arm the alarm and I manually flip the lock switch and close the door and the alarm won't arm. If I press the lock button on the remote, the alarm arms. So if I forget to turn off the headlight and manually lock the door, it'll be great if the lights turn off right away.

why don't you want the alarm armed... :confused:
 
Ha! My '02 4Runner automatically turns off the headlights when i open the door...no delay! :cool: (Of course, i don't think you can program it to have a delay either.)

Now, we know which 4runner year is better! :D :p

is that with the headlights on, or set to auto? Does the 02 have dimming interior lights?
 
My headlights (ON or DRL) will turn off automatically when door is opened (after ignition is OFF). There is no "Auto" setting on my 4runner.

I don't think my 4Runner has dimming interior lights...they are either on or off.

:D 03's have dimming interiors... :) the headlights remain on when you have them set to auto...i'm not sure if it works the same when they are just turned "on"
 
Damn, you guys have an "auto" setting?!! Crap, yeah, you guys do have better features!:( And dimming interior lights?! Bastard! :D

yea, they are pretty nice...i love the auto setting...my explorer had it. You don't even have to turn the lights on. The only problem is when I go to drive other peoples cars, i forget to turn the lights on because I am so used to them going on automatically.
 
If it makes you feel any better, Thai, the 2003 SR5 does not have headlights that automatically come on, but they will automatically go off. But we still have the dimming interior lights!! :D

really? i thought that was just standard...so thats not an option on the SR5...weird...your headlight switch doesn't have an auto setting?
 
Just checked the product brochure, and auto on/off headlights are listed as standard on the Limited, not listed as available for SR5 or Sport.

Read thru the shop manual to find anything on this... Have not found anything that tells me how to change the timing on the auto off delay...

sorry..

maybe someone might be able to find it or find out from the stealers.

That's weird, if it's not in the shop manual, how does the dealer know how to do it?
