Could sombody please give me the proceedure? I have both origonal remotes but the plastic key ring broke on one of them. I just bought a used remote that is similar, ( HYQ12BAN )

I did the search previously and read that info.
I did not see where it includes the 2003 4Runner as one of the included vehicles. I had doubts that it would work. But, If you know it does, I'll give it a shot. I'll let you know in a week ( when I get the fob) how it goes.

I read your old post and it is the one I was discussing . You provided a link to a TSB that is dated 7/19/02.
I may be new to this forum but, If you'd take the time to read your own post you'll see there is no referance to it including a 2003 4Runner as an applicable vehicle.
For 2003 vehicles it includes Corolla, Matrix,Camry and Avalon.
Please, Correct me if I'm wrong.
Regardlesly, I will assume you sucsessfully used this proceedure on your 2004 fobs and that other readers have used it and it worked as well.

.....try these......I programmed my key FOB with these instructions I picked up from ebay.....only thing different was that after the eighth step my truck didn't lock and unlock by itself. I just continued on with the rest of the steps anyway with the key FOB and it worked.....if this doesn't work then tap your forehead once, jump up and down on one leg for five seconds and then click your heels together three times....it probably won't work but you'll look funny doing it....
99-05 Toyota 4Runner Tacoma
1. unlock all of the doors in the car, open the driver's side door, and make sure the key is not in the ignition
2. put the key into the ignition and then pull it out without turning it or anything
3. within 40 seconds, lock and then unlock the doors five times using the power lock button on the driver's side door.
4. close the door and then open it again
5. within 40 seconds lock and then unlock the doors five times again using the power lock button.
6. Put the key into the ignition and turn it to the on position (not acc and not far enough to actually start the engine) and then back to the off position, then back to on and back to off.
7. Pull the key out of the ignition
8. If you are successful, after about 5 seconds, the doors should power lock and then unlock on their own. If that doesn't happen then try again from step 1.
9. within 40 seconds, hold down the lock and unlock button simultaneously on the remote for a second. Then release and hold down the unlock button for 3 seconds. The power locks should cycle again once on their own. If they don't cycle exactly once, repeat this step from the beginning with the remote again.
10. Repeat step 9 for every remote you want to program. You have to do this with any remotes that were previously programmed because this process essentially resets what remotes the car will respond to.
11. Close the driver's side door to signify that you are done programming the remotes
99-05 Toyota 4Runner Tacoma

Just like in the other post... Sharp4runer you need to lighten up a bit on the search thing. Now you see why I wrote what I did in the other thread.

I also bought 2 key fobs from Ebay but my directions were different:
2003-2005 4Runner, Rav4

8. Remove key from ignition switch
9. System should now lock and unlock vehicle. Once, twice or five times depending on which mode has been selected. One to four times, slowly, to indicate how many remotes are registered
10. Within 40 sec press and hold remote transmitter's LOCK and UNLOCK buttons together for 1.5 sec and release.
11. Within 3 sec press remote lock button
12. System should now LOCK and UNLOCK vehicle. Once to confirm registration, twice to indicate programming has failed
13. Within 40 sec repeat steps 10-12 to program additional remote transmitters. Up to 4 remote transmitters can be programmed.
14. To exit programming mode open the driver's door
Note: pay careful attention to the timing of the intervals especially in steps 10 and 11. Holding the buttons too long or too short will cause the programming to fail. Multiple attempts might be necessary.
I actually had to try several times. The real problem was step 10. I found that holding the buttons for just over 1 second worked best. Who actually thought it necessary to have the programmer hold the buttons for between 1 and 1.5 seconds? Why not between 1 and 5 seconds?

I will try them all , if necessary , one at a time.
If I don't melt the fob or go insane hopping on one leg while screaming " OH WHAT A FEELING " , I'm confident I'll get it to work.

I bought my remotes from a website called www.keylessride.com about a month ago, I have the direcctions that came with the remotes. If you still have problems shoot me a PM and I'll scan them for you.

Hi MDT 4RNR....just for interest sake, could you post your instructions too that were given with your key FOB?.....wondering how many different there are out there....thanks!....and I agree, this forum is great!....I can probably put a good dollar figure on what I've saved in reading other people's solutions to problem's.....

2003 Toyota 4Runner instructions
1. Start w/ the following conditions:
a. Key is out of the ignition
b. Driver door is open (all doors are closed)
c. Driver door is unlocked (other doors don't matter)
2. Perform the next two steps within 5 seconds:
a. Insert the key into the ignition (do not turn) and pull it out.
b. Insert the key into the ignition (do not turn) and pull it out.
3. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:
a. Close then open the driver's door
b. Close then open the driver's door
c. Insert the key into the ignition (don't turn it) and pull it out.
4. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:
a. Close, and then open the driver's door,
b. Close, and then open the driver's door,
c. Close the driver's door
d. Insert the key into the ignition and leave in the ignition
e. Turn the ignition to ON (as far as you can go without cranking your engine), then back to off.
f. Remove the key from the ignition
5. Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should cycle (lock then unlock) automatically indicating successful entry into programming mode. Return to step 1 if the locks do not cycle at this point.
6. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:
a. Press the lock and unlock buttons on the transmitter
Simultaneously for 1 second.
b. Immediately after letting go of the lock and unlock buttons, press the unlock button by itself and hold for 2 seconds. Within3 seconds, the door locks should cycle (lock then unlock) once indicating successful programming. If the door locks cycle twice, repeat steps 6a and 6b- this remote has not been accepted.

MDT4RNR, Thank You. Your directions are very concise. Did the origonal fobs still work afterwards or did they need to be reprogramed using the same steps ?
