How to remove 5th gen 4WD selector dial?

I searched and found 1 brief mention that it twists off like the regular 4wd knob.

Since there is a push button to change the dial position, I assume there is a spring in there.

I'd like to pull my center console and assume that I have to remove this dial.

If so, does it really just unscrew? Seems hard to believe and I don't want to make it unusable requiring a trip to the dealer to fix.

Any info would be greatly apprecaited

Thanks

Can come off with the console. Lift it up abit and unplug it

True very easy. Just installed a cobra75 and had the center console out several times. It takes about 30secs. Unscrew the shift knob. Put your hands in the rear cup holder holding tight and pull up. It will start popping up. Unplug the rear window switch and 4x4 selector and you're all set.

FYI- You don't need to take the gear selector knob off to get the center console cover off. I didn't realize that for about 2 years.

Hi Mark,

Here's a photo with my 'Center Console Trim Panel' being removed when I was refinishing it. It come's off fairly easily; now I don't even need any tools to pry it up and off, just use my hands! There's two harness connectors underneath that must be un-plugged (rear window and shift mode selector) and then it's free to remove!

Where can I find one?

Someone just broke into my 2017 4Runner and decided they needed the regular 4wd knob more than I did.

Where can I find one? The dealership wanted $125 for it.
Thanks everyone.

Hi jjp17, (sorry for your loss!),

To make things easy, I'd check on ebay FIRST. If they're prices seem unreasonable, there are plenty of 'Toyota Salvage part stores' on the web that deliver and offer FREE PRIORITY S&H!

Here's a link to just one; this one's NEW... you'll wanna shop a lil' to find the very best prices online:
