How to remove painted pin stripe

I've done some reading on google...looks like there's a few ways to remove the painted pin stripe w/o wet sanding. Anybody done it here? It's on an 05' Sport. The factory or dealership's stripe is fadeing in places and might come off easy, just wanted some options before starting. Thx

I had the same problem, and also did not want to wet sand. I found several places online that recommended using Easy Off oven cleaner. It seems pretty extreme, but it worked great for a painted-on stripe on my other vehicle.

Here's what I did- spray a bunch of Easy Off in a cup. Get a fist full of Q-tips, dip one in the oven cleaner, then lightly rub the stripe. As it starts to come off, flip it over and scrub it in a little. Work about 6" at a time, making sure you don't leave any of the oven cleaner to soak on the paint. When you're all done, give it a real good wash and wax.

It didn't hurt the paint at all, but I was very careful with it. I'm not going to suggest that you use this method, but it did work for me. Of course, all bets are off if there's clear coat over the stripe.

I also tried the oven cleaner today. I used to use oven cleaner to strip gun stocks for refinishing and it worked great for that. It worked OK for the light grey strip that was faded, but the dark grey, thicker stripe didn't want to come off. W/ enough time and soaking I'm sure it would come off, but seems like it would take forever. I was hoping there might be an easier method, but looks like there's not. I may work on it some more tomorrow on the lift gate and see how that goes. Thanks for the reply

I had a painted on pinstripe on mine when I bought it and couldn't stand the way it looked. I seached Google and found that a lot of people had removed it with the Easy Off Oven Cleaner, so I gave it a shot. I was able to remove the entire pinstripe without damaging the paint. It took a couple of hours to get the entire thing off of both sides. I used the oven cleaner and some Q-Tips.
