How to remove the covers over JBL amp and sub?

I have an 03 with the JBL Synthesis system. I think that the system itself is incredible, all the way up to full volume, but the bass response is left in the dust after only about 75% volume. My plan is to hijack the speaker wire out of the amp for the sub and run it into a monoblock amp with speaker level inputs and then run a better sub off the monoblock.

The problem is getting into the compartment where the JBL amp and sub are located. Has anyone done this? The panel doesn't just "come off" like so many other panels in the vehicle do.
