How To: remove the factory alarm 2nd gen

So I have seen A LOT of "how do I remove the factory alarm" threads...

Usually because people installed an aftermarket alarm or because they lost the key fob or just cause the so called "comfort entry" that gives you 15-30 seconds to jump in the truck and put the key in the ignition before the annoying beep-beep-beep routine, is not that comforting.

but no one seems to give a solid answer... well on some of the first gens you find it under the driver seat on the 91 2nd gens they got a little sneakier and stuck it behind the glove box. So remove your glove box (you should know hoe to do this if you are even thing of messing with wiring and alarms)

Look up towards the top of the dash you'll see a brace with a couple boxes screwed to it.
(I'm cheating here as I had actually taken off one of the screws already)

unscrew the two screw on either side and pull down

when you pull it down, you'll know you have the right one because it says so right on the box...

unplug the two connections going to it. one is a wire connector the other says antenna...

once removed there is no need to cut or do anything with the plugs..

In fact they tuck nicely right back where they came from, no rattle no noise and no annoying "comfort" feature rushing you to hurry up and get the key in the ignition...

If it's that easy to disconnect it, is that easy to install one? I wonder if there used ones out there with matching key fobs.

delay is 15 seconds or 30 seconds, this is the comfort setting, LOL

My nails were hideous that day... but then again I was "working" LOL

nicnmike, you can buy the key fob at the stealership or on line (ebay) then just program it to your truck (shows ya how to do it in the owners manual)

If you want it you can have the one I just pulled (pay for shipping) but to be honest, I'd install an aftermarket alarm.

Having an alarm would be cool, but what what would really be awesome is key-less entry and key-less rear window. Is that what what you mean by automated windows? I'll need to pull my glove compartment and see if there is an alarm system already installed.

well basically yes. the alarm serves to lock and unlock the doors, and it rolls the back window up and down. I'll take a video a little later (or tomorrow, lol) and show you what I mean.

Glad I came upon your thread. I've got a 93 4Runner with this security system installed and I believe it's causing some issues with the 3.4 swap I'm working on. When I disconnect the control module as you mentioned in your first post, the engine will not crank at all.

I would be interested in the wiring for the factory upgrade system if you have it available. Before I dig into pulling the system out I'd like to see the wiring to see where it connects into the body harness.

What a relief to not deal with the annoyance of that beep beep beep. I wonder what other little secrets our 2nd gen is hiding from us......
