How to remove the tail lights?

I looked at both write-ups on the making the red bumper lights functional and neither says how to remove the tail lights to pass the wiring from the bumper lights I made up to the tail lights to be wired in to the brake/running light. I did numerous searches here and looked around on yotatech and cant find out how to remove the tail lights. I see the two bolts holding the tail light on but can only remove one because the socket wrench can't fit inside there to remove the top one. Do I need to remove the panel right there to be able to remove it? Or am I using an incorrect tool here.

Those two bolts are the only ones that hold the taillights in. Use a deep socket or an open face wrench. its doable.

you may need to tug a bit after taking the nuts off as it has some foam adhesive holding the light to the body.

well I realized early on my standard 10mm socket wasn't gonna cut it, so I got a deep one. Now this obviously isn't working so I guess 10mm wrench will do... I just wanted to know if its necessary to actually remove the panels or not... apparently not so thanks for saving me that hassle. thanks.

Ok indeedy using the 10mm wrench I got it... I noticed it was harder to get on the left side as opposed to the right. Same thing for when I was removing the bumper lights. I wonder why that would be.
Ok well thanks for the help, saved me from ripping apart my whole cargo area worth of panels.

Do a search for this thread...... "Putting rear red lens to use"!
This thread is lengthy but it explains how to remove the read tail lamp, and several different ways of wiring the rear red bumper lens. ......good luck!

Thanks for the info but already done... looks fantastic and wasn't all that difficult look back at it. I just blew it out of proportion.

So your tails arrived ok? How do they look?

very very good, not a single blemish on them. I was thinking they'd look to ricey for me as well but I like them alot more than the stock ones. As far as the bumper light mod I'm loving that too... everytime I drive past a 4th Gen I laugh now because my lights do something theirs dont.
