How to replace the radio antenna completely

I came a cross a brand new radio antenna and motor that I would like to put in my runner. I'm glad, since my is toast and has been for a while. How do you replace it? I have searched, but all I find it how to replace the mast. Do I need to separate the mast from the motor to install? Needless to say, it the a DIY write up some where?

Unless the mast is stuck in the extended position, you can remove the motor, mast and cable as a unit. Is it a 4Runner antenna? If not, be careful as not all antennas can handle the angle that the fender hole has on our cars. To remove, unscrew the top antenna nut. Then you will have to remove (partially) the rear side of the fender lining. There are square plastic plugs you have to pry out and some of them will not survive. Get half a dozen new ones from the dealer, they're cheap. Once you can pull down the liner, you can see the bolts to get the motor out. You will probably have to run the wire on the new one into the cab--I haven't done that part.

I used this with a scion t1809 radio, easy and reception is great
