I wish I could get my van with a manual transmission. I hate automatics with a passion. GM is the only one that ever made them worth a hoot. Auto trans are the biggest weakness of 99% of the vehicles out there...

as in the concern is the car wont stop... as in most mammys that drive don't have a clue.....as in us the clutch to disengage the engine.....as in a 5 speed sitting at a stop light in gear is not a "threat"

A "mammy" trying to coordinate a 5-speed manual is probably more dangerous than a mammy driving with an automatic!

My automatic has a neutral position. It also has an ignition key with an 'Off' option. And get this, I have brakes too!!

Ever seen a push button start?? Lexus has a lock on the trany, unless you didn't read that report. genius.

If shes driving it, Im sure she knows what the 3rd pedal is for...

:iagree:, But with a 6 speed, you can get so many cars in stick (and in diesel) outside of this country, its cause our country is full of lazy assh0les.

But the clutch is the big one, the clutch disengages the power to the wheels, which you know, but still.

They took my vehicle out of the US too, the LR Defender, and when it was here it was only in gas. That yota looks pretty sick though.

I wouldn't even mind putting a diesel in my 89 4Dog...That L70 P/U is the heat. That would be the last vehicle you'd ever need.

Defenders were too good to be true...What can you say about riveted quarter panels, other than sweet....

And Hummers think they got sumpin...... friggin Mama trucks.

A push button start can also be turned off. Also, what is this lock on the tranny? That is simply not true. There is no lock on the transmission that prevents you from putting the vehicle into neutral. I know with the Lexus that I drive on occasion, you can shift it right into neutral without a problem.

There were some issues with people not being able to put their vehicle in neutral, but that was due to the fact they were using one of the gated shifters and did not know where neutral fell on this transmission.

Yep, I've seen push buttons. You can use them to turn the engine off too, although some need to be pushed in for a set time like 2-3 seconds or something, which I think is sort of dangerous especially in relation to the 'Toyota problem'.

What's this report then? Does the transmission really lock in drive?

I'm with you all the way on the 70 Series Cruisers. I used to drive this one occasionally at my last job. I loved it.

In our house we're shaking our heads at the Toyota Throttle Problem. Our local dealer thought we were crazy to want a 5 speed manual in 2000 when we ordered our 4Runner. When they told us "we can't get you that transmission" we found what we wanted in Colorado. It seems that 2000 was the last year for the 5 speed manual in the 4Runner. I think they wanted to make the 4Runner less like a truck and more like a sedan. I haven't driven a 4th or 5th Gen 4Runner so I have no feel for their ride quality, but that's my thought on the matter.
