How to spend a tiny bit of $$$

Im a newbie here but have been reading the forum alot. So basically I can afford either a lift and wheels spacers or new tires, but not both right now. So do I order the lift/wheel spacers and install and run on stock tires for awhile like 2-6mo or go with new tires and just store them for 2-6mo until I can get the lift. What should I do? Anybody got pics of a 3/2 or 2.5/1.5 lift with stock tires?

Wait

Buy the lift kit and wait. It doesn't have to be installed instantly. Put it on the shelf and then contemplate your tires / wheel choice. Then this summer put it all together! Heck half the fun is shopping and dreaming... why cut it short!

I would get the lift now along with spacers. It will look a little weird with stock tires and lifted but I see no reason to buy tires and store them for months.

What size tire are you planning on going with?

I was in the same situation and went with a lift and installed it and actually ran a 3" lift with stock tires for a good few months. Wheeled it too - hard. Took it on trails it had no business being on with those tires.

It wasn't just because I had stock tires...these puppies were BALD! I was just stupid wheeling with them the shape they were in.

But ric wheeled with stock tires for quite awhile longer than me....until this: **CAUTION - ADULT LANGUAGE** YouTube - Saxton Mtn 3 Flat Tires in 10 min Sept '09

So yes, you can buy the lift, install it, and run it with stock tires and wheel it too! If it were me I'd do it the way I did it again. I buy something, I want it installed. I couldn't put it on the shelf and watch it sit there catching dust.

Alot of people trade their oem tires if they are fairly new towards bigger ones so your new tires might not be as expensive as you think. I traded my original Dunflops in at Discount tire and got $75 each towards new tires. Some on here getting a $100 a piece trade in.

Wheel spacers are for looks and are'nt necessary with a lift and bigger tires. Wheel spacers put the wheel out farther and actually cause more rubbing .

So a 285/70r17 tire on a lifted vehicle with stock 17" sr5 wheels will fit just fine wihtout spacers? no rubbing?

285/70/17 tires recommend a minimum of a 7.5" wide rim (like the Trail Edition, FJ, and Tacoma Wheels). The SR5 has a 7" wide rim so you'd be taking your chances...

I just went ahead and got a set of 09' 17" Tacoma Wheels so I could run 285's but needed wheels spacers since the backspacing & offset were different.

If you go to bigger more aggressive tires, you will lose the smooth factory ride chracteristics. Its a toyota afterall not your old leaf sprung chevy, you will feel the difference. Its important to me becasue I drive mine to work everyday and play on the wkends. If your an off-road junkie with an expensive garage toy then I guess you wont care. I really dont see the point of lifting a TE, which I have. If your into the look, then again, you dont care if the truck is more than capable as is.

So I think i may go with the Toytec 3" from spacer rear 2" coils kit with 255/80r17 bfg km2 tires. Undecided on wheel spacers. I will probably way till everything is installed and see if they are needed. Anyone have any thoughts on this possible setup?
