how to turn off traction control

I noticed on my 07 SR5 that the only way to temporarily dissable the traction control is to go into 4 wheel then lock the hubs otherwise in 2 wheel and normal 4 wheel in deep snow it becomes impossible to move around. I would rather not have to lock the diffs unless it was absolutely necessary.

My friend has the 08 SR5 and it has a switch on the drivers side lower left dash. I don't have that switch. Does anybody know if the wiring exists behind the blank knockout of another way to put a switch in?

Unfortunately for us '03-'07 owners we got the shaft on being able to have a defeatable traction control switch doom to have the nanny always looking over. Quick way to remedy the solution is to pull the harness on the brake booster. Do a search on this to get a clear picture of it. Further steps that others have taken is to get a traction control switch and wire it into said harness to interupt the power signal to it. It'll turn off on the spot, only downside is that you'll need to restart the motor to get you're traction control back.

It must be the wrong thread cause there's nothing there re switch.

Uneek copied the wrong link, click on "VSC off mod" in my signature.

Based on your question it sounds like you're missing a point...
1) There are no hubs to lock on the 4th gen. The front axle has an automatic axle disconnect on the V6 that activates in the 2wd mode.
2) What you are locking and unlocking that provides the simultaneous deactivation of the VSC is the transfer-case mounted center differential in the 4wd.

The mod that's listed in my link tricks the VSC into thinking the center diff is locked when it is not. It allows for operation in 4wd without the center diff locked and without interference from VSC. You can simply turn the switch off and the system resets. There's no need to shut the vehicle off to reset it...

The weaknesses in the mod are twofold: 1) It doesn't work in 2wd. I am not sure why yet. 2) The dash lights while driving with my mod engaged shows the center diff locked when it is not. That's the 'tricking' the computer thing.

Good luck.

If you pull the wires off the master does it work in 2wd ?
Do any warning lights come on ?
This seems like a great mod , I hate the VSC in 2wd

1) Yes but the rear axle won't have limited slip.
2) Yes, lots of them.
3) Pulling the wire does work. You'll have no ABS on your brakes with the wire pulled. Even if you wire a switch returning the vehicle to normal mode requires restarting the engine. I totally agree with you, I wish I could easily cancel VSC in 2wd and retain my ATRAC (limited-slip).

If you wire my setup (which does NOT work in 2wd) the system will reset without restarting the engine.

In response to #3, I've pulled my TC harness off and have still retained ABS.

I will be planning on doing this mod sometime down the road. I just gotta get the OEM switch so I can wire it up that way. It sucks that you do loose ATRAC, but I plan on putting in a limited slip diff in the rear anyways along with an ARB air locker up front when I start getting my rig setup for more off roading.

Cool, I was talking about the wire on the master cylinder. You're talking about the whole harness at the control unit (pass side under glovebox)?

IIRC you were thinking of a TruTrak in the back, I am so with you on that. I suspect we're the only ones that would do that with a locker in the front vs 2 lockers:D

Yeah the harness on the master cylinder is what I was referring to as well, actually didn't even know about the harness behind the glovebox deal till now.

You're reading my mind! Detroit TruTrac is exactly what I had in mind. If you've read my reasonings in past debates that I've had with certain others, I think this would be a potent combination with and w/o ATRAC. Of course the front would only be used if the center were locked first.
