How would I check for frame rust??

Since I have heard that the frame rusts from the inside out, how do i check for frame rust? Should I get out a hammer and start tapping around? What do I listen for and what sections do i look at? Is this common on 1994 runners?

I don't know how bad the rust problem is on a 94, but it can be really bad on an 80s truck.

Best way to check is take a small hammer or something and start tapping just about everywhere. Especially anywhere the frame turns upwards, over the rear tires, and where the fuel tank sits against the frame (there you may have to take a long screwdriver and poke, cause the tanks in the way). Check both sides of each rail.

Ther should not be major rust issues oon a 94 unless it was driven in salt alot and never taken care of.

Most rust on 2nd gen 4runners start on the rear wheel wells.
