howling noise

I've got a question about my 90 4runner...I live in western canada where the winters can be very cold. When that happens, there's a howling sort of WOO-WOO-WOO sound coming from what seems to be under my feet on the driver side. When it's warm out, no sound. I've had 5 different people check wheel bearings, transmission and transfer case and could find nothing wrong.

Any ideas??

I found the major offenders for noises on our 90 4runner were the power steering pump and wheel bearings. We just put new Michelin LTX's on it, so tire noise was out of the equation. I flushed out the power steering fluid which quieted things down quite a bit.
You might have them check the inner front wheel bearing. It never gets checked due to the fact that you need to replace the wheel seal to do it. Ours was fairly dry and way out of factory torque spec. You might try rotating your tires to see if it goes away. :beer:

Thanks for the advice...it just occurred to me today that I received a recall letter from toyota awhile back about something to do with steering...I forgot all about that...I'll have to check it out...perhaps I can email toyota.com...

I had all the wheel bearings checked and repacked this past February, so I'm sure they're still ok...but I will get the steering issue checked out.
