How's this price sound?

Was shopping the internet and found a vehicle that fits my options requirements. Silver Limited, with NAV, cross bars and mats... oh yeah, it has a slid out tray. Anyway, the truck lists for 42968.00. Dealer will sell for 39,260.00 plus a 299.00 fee. Includes frieght. Which is 3768.00 off msrp, plus the fee. thoughts?

pretty good--I assume this is for a 2011...I think if you tried to negotiate, you could get some more off or some extras thrown in...Be weary if you haven't talked to the dealer yet--internet prices are sketchy sometimes.

what extras are you talking about?

Just look on the website or brochure about accessories...and i would ask them to add a few of those on your truck. Even if you don't like it later on, you can still Ebay it for money.

Remember, gas prices are skyrocketing!! They need you a whole lot more than you need them, esp. when it comes to a trucks and SUVs. Haggle some more. Haggle till he says no...then you wait a 1-2 days...and if he does not call back, then you know that you are at the bottom of the price already. Haggling is fun.

Yeah, I'm pretty good at wearing them out. However, this truck is in transit to Ga. and I live in Md. I am currently in Florida and will be driving back north next week with my wife. We can easily make the ride to where the truck is, but I don't have the opportunity to hang around and see if he calls back. lol If they don't take what I finally offer, then it's homeward bound and keep on looking. I did check with my local dealer and sent him the quote I had after they quoted me on a similiar vehicle...missing the tray and still on the boat. But he was 1500 bucks or so higher than this guy and I have not heard a word from them since sending them the Ga. qoute. we'll see if they pop up today. thanks.

To answer the OP: Assuming this is a 2011 ... that's an 8% discount off msrp, so that's an OK deal. 10% imo is good, others have done even better.

But in the end, you have to decide what you'll pay, and how much trouble you'll go to to save a few more hundred. No matter what others get, that means nothing to your dealer.

At least work him 'til month-end. Good Luck.

What Thai said. You can do all the haggling over the phone. When you think you can't get any better, get them to give you a fully itemized invoice with everything you requested and every cent that you'll be charged and SIGNED by the manager. Since you live out of state from where the vehicle is, you can tell them to write it up without TT&L--you can do this when you get back to MD.

Last April I bought my 2010 Limited w/ nav. for $39600 in Md.(not including taxes or tag/title fees). I didn't feel like doing any more negotiation at that point so I bought the truck. It looks like some members of this site paid less for their trucks (most of them in other parts of the Country). That being said if you haggle you can probably do a little better ($500-$1000). I don't think it would be easy to do much better than $39000 in this part of the Country with some of the highest incomes in the U.S.. It should be easier to get a better deal in other areas.

If you make a deal based on invoice, the stealer can not play games with the price or options. Example, lets say you come to an agreement of $500 over invoice, they can not make more money on options. Just completely read the contract before signing. Some POS stealers will try to include extras like expensive window etching or paint sealants, etc.

39,560 on a 43,000 sticker is pretty much invoice. That's ok but certainly nothing to go out of your way for.

It's not like this is a new model or any kind of scarce at this point.

The Maryland dealer was about $1350 higher. I even sent them the quote from the dealer in GA and they told me to buy it. By the way, that was Waldorf Toyota.

I told them I could do the paper work when I got to MD but they said they couldn't release the MSO without first collecting the tax and title costs. They did quote me out the door and the numbers for the MD tags, etc. was correct.

I know, and not going out of my way, just happen to be driving by on our way back from FL. and the vehicle has the options I want, and none of the ones I don't want.
