HU removal in a 2k4

Howdy-

Alright, I feel real dumb for asking this...but I'm a mechanical engineer and this truck is my baby, so I'm not screwing around with her.

I have a 2004 SR5 with the basic stock HU and I'm looking to do two things. First...remove the head unit to attach on an FM Modulator for my XM Roady2, Second how to get below the center front, under the shifter and into box console with the wires.

If anyone could walk me through this, or at least get me started that would be great.

Thanks in advance. :D

hey, could you do me a favor and take some pictures of your install? i'm right there with you. Things are still new with my car and the last thing i wanna do is screw something up. also, just from your last posting, what kind of harness are you planning to make in the flip-out tray? Are you gonna cut into it? I think that's a perfect place for an iPod or the Roady2 if you can cut a nice little box into it.

Doesn't the stock HU come with AUX ports just like the Scion? If so, (besides the better sound) what so much better about the Scion HU? I like the XM feature on it but if you have something like the Roady2 or the Delphi SkyFi2, i rather use that. Esp the SkyFi2 which you can display sports scores and pause live radio (just like TiVo!)

Let me know if the stock HU has AUX inputs. I would like to hook my unit to the factory HU rather than the FM modulator.

Thanks

The stock 6 speaker HU does have an extra input that is used for the factory CD changer option. There are after market adapters that will convert this into a line-input. I think PIE and Blitzsafe do (or did) make something. Search the forums, it's been discussed several times.
