Manual hubs are not going to affect mpg anymore than auto hubs.
They both do the same thing, disconnect the wheels from the axle to reduce wear and drag.
The advantage of manual hubs is that they are stronger and more reliable than auto hubs.
Now if you have the ADD system, that's something completely different. For one thing you don't have hubs at all. You have drive flanges that connect the wheels to the axles full time.

It's my understanding that all 2nd gnd 4runners were ADD. The swap is a no brainer, & it WILL increase mileage over the stock flanges. Purchase new star/flange gaskets, & make sure you have a brass punch & 20oz ball peen hammer, & its a 1hr/1bananna job.

:iagree: ADD and auto hubs get mixed up all the time, fourwd1's statement is correct but im pretty sure all 2nd gens have ADD. If you swap to manual hubs you will probably see a small mpg increase but more importantly imo it reduces wear on the cv joints which is big bonus especially if you have a lift. oh and also you will be able to use low range in 2wd!

basically whatever the cost of the hubs are. Warns are about $150 to $200 a pair, or you could get oem aisins from a junkyard (they are expensive new), which dont stick out as far so are less likely to be damaged. I converted to aisins that i got for $100, they are easy to rebuild you will just need to get a few gaskets from the dealership

You will be better off getting them from someone on Ebay, Craigslist, or a salvage yard.
Brand new from the dealer will be WAY too much money.
Same hubs as IFS 1st & 2nd gen 4Runner, Pickup, T100 93 - 95.
I don't believe the solid axle hubs are the same, and the 3rd gen & up is different also.
I got mine from YotaYard for $50 a pair a while back. I made sure they came with EVERYTHING. All the bolts, washers, cone washers, nuts, spacers....et all.
It is easy to swap over.
I did it on both my '87 4Runner & '95 T100.

you can leave the hubs locked when in 2wd and it will work just like it did before the swap. for example i leave mine unlocked in the summer and just lock them in when im going off road, but in the winter i leave them locked in all the time so its easier to shift in the fly

Found some hubs online for 100 bucks but they are from a solid axle 4runner. Can anyone confirm 100% that these hubs from a solid axle 4runner will NOT work with my IFS 4runner?
