Hubby is finally about to join the Toyota truck family!

I just had to share my excitement, as I'm sure you guys all will understand. My husband currently owns a 2009 Jetta Volkswagen, which has been nice, but we have found it just too small for the family, our daughters car seat barely fits in the back of it. And I have been tired of my Runner being the one to always take us everywhere and haul everyone (I don't mind most the time, but she's needs a break once in awhile!).
Anyway, on to the point. We've been researching and searching for the right truck for my husband (that's what he wanted, unfortunaly no 4Runner for him, not his style), and finally found our perfect truck! We are getting a 2008 Limited Toyota Tundra Crewmax, with appox. 68K miles and it comes with almost all the bells and whistles, only missing the Navigation, which we can live without. We are going through Carmax because they had a large amount of vehicles to choose from, and our truck has orders to be transferred to us anytime after tomorrow!
The only thing really wrong with the truck is that they said it has a heavy smoke oder :moping:, but we've done a lot of research online, and think we'll be able to get it all out for the most part. Anyone buy a smoker vehicle before and been able to successfully remove the oder?
Can't wait to see it! We are really becoming a Toyota truck family, lol. I have my Runner, my hubby will have his Tundra, my Mom has an '03 Tundra and my Dad an '07 Runner (same as mine)! Go Yota's!

make sure they change the cabin air filter, that usually clears some smoke odor, but u will need to steam clean the whole interior.

I used to smoke. It took a couple months, but I got all the smoke odor out of my truck with a thorough cleaning and repeated application of arm&hammer to the carpets and fabric panels.

Great to hear all the Toyota influence in the family too. I bought a used Chevy once with cloth interior, the previous owner had a dog inside all the time and when the sun warmed up the interior it smelled like wet dog. Puke! A good vacuuming of all the fabric surfaces and a couple bottles of febreeze and it never smelled bad again.
I imagine smoke could probably be cured the same way. Hope it works out and congrats to your hubby for joining the good side!

When I first got my 2003 Highlander... smelled like it had been smoked in since it left the factory! So I did the following:
Vacuumed the whole interior, everywhere.
Took a can of Lysol, sprayed all carpet places, because smoke has little bacteria. I sprayed it everywhere, and then took it from out side air, sprayed the Lysol there and make it come from feel, feet & defrost, defrost, etc then same with inside air so it would go all over the vents. To find the outside air intake, it is in front of the windshield. You might have the pop the hood to find it. Changed the cabin air filter, and took it on a highway drive with all the window's down because the Lysol smell was so strong, then over night left the windows cracked so it could air out a little more. After that the Lysol had a small but noticeable small that smelled nice but no too strong. But since you have leather, take a good leather conditioner and condition it really good. Them it will smell nice & clean Good you stayed in the Toyota family! I actually saw you on Facebook, the time you posted the pic of your 4Runner in snow (your avatar) on Toyota USA's or Toyota 4Runner's wall don't remember witch one it was. Anyways, that's how I did it

Thank you all for the congrats and helpful advice on getting the truck clean!! We are def. taking this all down, anything will help! This is the first time we've bought a vehicle with a smell in it, especially a bad one like smoke, so we know it's going to take a lot of cleaning power, but we feel confident we'll get rid of it all! Already made a stop at Wallie World today and picked up a bunch of cleaning supplies. Someone on Tundratalk.net suggested putting a box of baking soda under the front seats to help absorb extra odors, thought that was clever. We'll see how it goes! My hubby is really getting excited about his truck, he already spent a good part of the afternoon looking into all the things he wants to do to it already, lol, can I say broke? Oh well, I'm glad he's happy!! =)

Since then my mom bought an 09' Corolla and my mother-n-law has an 07' Rav4. One thing we all know is we won't have any major car problems for a very long time. Good buy.

nice truck. try coffee grounds. seriously. put them in a container and let them sit. we had some dudes smoke in our company trucks and to get the smell out we used coffee grounds. also try bounce dryer sheets in various places. helps too. good luck!

I'm a huge fan of the Tundra and the power that it makes; however, the frame is a joke.

Triple-Tech construction or whatever fancy jazz they use to describe a frame that's fully boxed in the front only and eventually tapers off into a C channel in the rear is far from a "durable" platform relatively speaking considering even Ford now has a fully boxed frame.

The torquing, twisting, and mis-alignment of the body panels when traveling over any uneven terrain is scary.

The best Tundra I've ever seen is one where the owner installed the TRD supercharger and retro-fitted a 200 Series Cruiser VF-4 Torsen center diff to have full time AWD.

In this area there is a company named Interior Magic. They did my car and all the smoke smell left. They used an ozone device that ran with the car closed up and the smell was gone after it ran for 2 hours. The company is a franchise that gets trade-ins ready to sell and mine looked perfect when they were done. Even if they aren't in your area, they can tell you how they get the smoke out (actual device, etc..)

Yes, my husband has already got something like this on his list of cleaning supplies to get. =) I guess you can get a can of odor remover/bomber thing and it cleans out a lot in your car. Should work pretty well from what we've seen! Thank you for the advice!

Sounds like your family knows how to buy cars too! Go Yota's! I told my hubby last night that when our daughter is a little older, I'm getting her the Toyota Powerwheels, so then we'll really all have Toyota's! =D We'll have to get a picture at that point.

Nice looking truck! I did buy a used car years ago that was owned by a smoker, and was never able to get rid of the smoke odor. I tried febreze, vinegar, vacuumed, shampooed, etc. It always came back, especially when it got hot outside. I had to sell the car because it felt so carcinogenic to drive. It seemed like the smoke even penetrated the leather steering wheel and constantly transferred to my hands. I was never able to get rid of the smoke smell, and it was a constant battle. I am not a smoker, and after a while it took the pleasure out of driving the car.

You can try a fogger like Gone Smoke, which sells on Amazon.

I'm not a huge fan of air fresheners but after you get the smell gone try some Leather scented air fresheners from Yankee Candle Co. I know it sounds crazy, but I get a lot of compliments on how my 4Runner smells like new leather.
