Hubcentric or Lugcentric ?

how would you get both it says the wheel is either hub centric or it is not, there is a why to have both kind on the same wheel?

well our factory alloy wheels are both hub-centric (meaning the wheel's center hole is machined to fit the hub exactly) AND lug-cetric (meaning the lug passes through the wheel and centers the wheel on the lug bolts).

If you are looking at aftermarket wheels it's more difficult to find a wheel that is both, in which case you'd want to get a hub-centric wheel over a lug-centric wheel.

alright thanks for the explaing appricated it, the wheels im looking at are either hub centric or they are not so ill go hubcentric, also would i have to get new lugs nut or the stock ones work fine?
 
our wheels are hub-centric only. It cant be both. I know what Liny is trying to say, but the lugs do not center the wheel on the hub.
 
LINY is right, the center hole fits tightly around the hub (i.e. hub-centric) and each lug nut is beveled to center each lug hole on the wheel around each stud (lug-centric).
 
Centering the lug hole around the stud has nothing to do with centering the wheel, our wheels are hub centric. And I'm not sure the lug nuts are beveled, but if they are it just centers the hole around the stud, but that does nothing to center the wheel, it just centers the hole. Again I know what you are trying to say, and i know I am being critical, but you would not use the term lug centric in this case. In the end, even if the lug nuts were not beveled and it did not center the lug hole on the stud, the wheel would still be centered on the hub, perfectly. :)

So tell me something...if the lug bolts are all spaced out from the center of the hub perfectly (as they should be) and each wheel hole is lined up with those lugs with nuts that are seated correctly, how is that wheel not centered?

If that logic was true, then the holes in the wheel wouldn't line up with all of the lugs perfectly because they're not all centered correctly.

I understand what you're trying to say, because wheels that are strictly lug-centric usually do end up with vibrations, but it doesn't mean that they're not lug centric.

Again, it's been debated and solved time and time again; our factory alloys are lug AND hub centric.
 
I guess what I am trying to say is when you press your wheel on the hub its centered, right then and there, before you even put the lug nuts back on. The lug nuts just hold the wheel on.
 
This question came up with me when I ordered wheel spacers. I was told that the later models, like from the late 90's on are all "hub-centric". I am thinking that when I installed them, there is a lip around the hub that the spacers fit on snug, which is what centers the spacer, and wheel. The lugs, when tightened would not do anything to center it as it would not move. I would presume then, not assume, that the "lug-centric" wheel is flush, and when you tighten the lugs down, it allows slight movement of the wheel to bring it in to center.

Refer to thread "Wheel Spacer Question" by wtf6316 dated 01/09/10. I posted photos on there of my spacer install, and you can clearly see that the wheel is "hub-centric".

I hear what you mean, but since you don't know if your own lug nuts are beveled or not provides a little insight into how much work you do on your truck. I know mine are beveled because I've taken my tires off a hundred times. If I were to bore out the center hole on my stock rims, the lugs would still center the rim to the hub because like LINY said, the lugs are still perfectly spaced.

I guess I could find the 10 or 20 other threads on the internet that discuss this and come to the same conclusion, but meh.
 
There is no way it can be both, either the lugs center the wheel or the hub centers it. It is literally impossible to do both because the hub will not move. If you are telling me the lugs help center the wheel, then our wheels are lug centric. Which is not true, the hub centers the wheel.

And like I said before, the lugs center the hole (I agree with you on that) but that has nothing to do with centering the wheel on the hub, and again you would not use the term lug centric.

This reminds me of the debate regarding wheel spacers vs. wheel adapters. Some were referring to wheel spacers as adapters, but they are not adapters, they are spacers, ...., two totally different animals.
 
I copied this from a wheel terminology web-site. If you read it correctly, it is either hub-centric OR lug-centric, but I don't see how they can be both at the same time.

Hub centric - The center bore hole of a wheel matches the hub diameter of the vehicle. This centers the wheel via the center hole rather than the lug nuts.

Lug centric - When the wheel is centered by the bolt holes/ lug nuts of the wheel, rather than by the center bore. Lug centric wheels should be balanced from the bolt holes.
 
I am with JSMARINE.
The wheel bore and the hub have a very tight clearance which is required for the hub centred design. Now, take a lug nut and insert it into the lug hole on the wheel that is off the truck. You will notice that there is a big clearance / play between them. This is the answer. We have hub centred wheels. How to properly balance them this is another story.
