Huge Turning Circle

My 2015 4R trail is at least 18" shorter than my '07 Tacoma DC4x4 with a proportionally shorter wheelbase, yet it's turning circle is a good 8' larger. There appears to some type bolt-on stop on the steering knuckle. Anyone have a similar issue?

True for the entire Prado family, including the FJC, GX, and 4th and 5th gens.

Assumed it was typical. I was trying to understand the suspension and/or front end differences between what are outwardly identical systems, down to many p/n's. I thought it might have something to do with concerns about rollover (limit the maximum steering input) or the KDSS.

My vehicle previous to the 4R was a Volvo S60R which is AWD. That car needed about as much room for its' turning circle as a semi. The 4R is much better.

Yeah the turning radius sucks sometimes, but I do scare and surprise some of my friends when finding a spot and parking.

I think the turning radius is better than my soon to be wife's (in a couple of hours) subie.

4runner = 37.4

Tacoma = 40.7

FJ Cruiser = 40.7

Xterra = 37.3

Subaru Outback = 36.1

MDX = 38.7

Tundra = 44

Land Cruiser = 38.7

RAV4 = 34.8 and 36.8 (Limited)

Explorer = 39.2 (2wd) and 38.9 (AWD)

You could do a lot worst than the 4runner....

"Huge turning circle?" I find the 4runner is quite nimble. I'm always amazed by how many people consider it a big vehicle.

Maybe I'm biased - my daily driver is a 2015 F250 crew cab longbox that's about 22' long. I challenge anyone to beat me in a biggest turning radius competition.

My 4th and 5th gen have a great turning radius compared to the 2010 gmc sierra crew cab I had.

Turning Radius Issue - 2016 SR5

I have a 14 exlporer and 16 4 runner. The specs say that the 4runner turning radius is less (tighter) than the explorer.

Reality is the 4 runner needs nearly 10 more feet to complete the circle.

Anyone else finding that the 4runner turning radius is not meeting the stated specification?

I came from a 3rd gen double cab taco and the turning radius on the 4r is a lot better

I also have a 2006 Tacoma double cab sb. Even though it’s longer, the turning radius seems much shorter than my 4runner despite what the specs say. On some spots where I can make a U-turn with my Tacoma, I need to make a 3 point turn with my 4runner.

Yes - we used to have a V70R....and also found that strange....you almost needed a 4 lane road to manage a U-turn without it becoming a K-turn

Funny you bring that up. I was riding back seat in my buddy's newer (2017?) Explorer and we had to do a U-turn on a city street. I was surprised how tight the turn was and I told him that I don't think that my Runner would have made that turn in one shot haha.

I encountered the same thing between my old 4th gen and current 4Runner. To make a u-turn on the street in front of my house, I need to roll about a foot or two over a driveway. With the 4th gen., the turn could be made with ease.
