LOLOLOL, ahhh, The Dolphin Bronco. It's his wife's (not that makes it any better) and they bought it that way. We kept giving him grief about it... Perhaps even funnier than the way it looks is the song we made about it after drinking around the campfire.

Welp, fast forward through the winter... I am so pissed that I took off my KM2s on November 6, 2011 to run the Michelins only to not get a lick of snow!!!

Recent mods in the order they were installed:

• SuperbrightLEDs throughout the interior, save the cigarette lighter and key -rings. Couldn't get those to work out.
• 4Crawler 1-inch Body Lift upgraded to HD hardware, colored blocks, radiator. drop brackets, and the steering shaft extension. I did this install all by myself using an 3.5-ton Arcan jack from Costco and a Flyin' Miata Jack Adapter screwed to a 6x6 so I wouldn't destroy the pinch weld.
• DIY - Blacked-out the front emblem.
• Lotus Development R-CAMS (Rear Control Arm Mount Skid) - used some self-etching primer from Eastwood and topcoated with some high-temp Dupli-Color.
• CBI Offroad Fab - 3rd Gen 4Runner Weld-On Rock Sliders with the following upgrades: DOM Tubing, Dimple-Die Plating, Kickouts, and Black Powdercoat. I then applied some 3M Resilient Safety-Walk antiskid tape - basically a "rubberized" version of their sandpaper-like antiskid tape. Awesome stuff - highly recommended!!!
• ToyTec Panhard Bar Drop Bracket - purchased along with my Ultimate kit, but never installed since it was kind of a PITA to install relative to what it did... But, since we had the grinder and welder out for the sliders, it only took a little bit more time to weld-through primer it, weld it on, and paint it.

Potts Mountain Warmup

We wanted to make nearby trail run to make sure there were no bugs before we hit Potts back up again. This trail is located in the George Washington National Forest near Harrisonburg, VA. The trail was super easy but made more fun by all the rain we got that weekend (I still need to extend my diff breather!). The rain, however, made chilling and camping that night rather miserable.

The MVP for the weekend was definitely my DIY-awning setup using a combination of a Kelty Noah's 12 tarp coming off an extendable pole attached to my OEM roof rack using Yakima Mighty Mounts and Mini Quick-Fist clamps. Cluuutch. Yes, true awnings are badass, but considering how often I actually use it, the flexibility, portability, and lightweight-aspect of this setup is more than satisfactory.

Anyway, onto the pics...

Usual suspects. The rain actually stopped long enough for us to take a few pics here, play in the mud holes, and set up camp.

Below is my email response to CBI's customer-service follow-up questions:

Nathan,

The shipping experience was great. The product arrived in good condition and without any noticeable damage. I have three highly modified vehicles and in turn have received many packages of varying sizes, shapes, weights, etc. and know how challenging it can be to protect, package, and handle items such as these heavy and awkward rock sliders.

My initial impression exceeded my expectations. Since all of the customization was done over the phone or via email, I was impressed that CBI Offroad Fab was able to meet my high level of expectations. Considering the substrate, the finished product is excellent - the powdercoat is smooth and even. Most of the weld splatter was removed and only the quality shows through. I have been modifying cars for well over ten (10) years and these are, in my opinion, high-end parts and one can see that time and care were spent in creating these.

My friend helped me weld on the sliders this past weekend (04/01) and everything went very smoothly. The frame plates were prepped and ready to go, so all I had to do was grind down and clean the truck's frame in order to accept the welds. The only concern might be the amount of actual plate welded onto the frame as I have a 1" body lift, so approximately 3/4" of the frame plates were not able to be welded to the frame and protrude vertically. The sliders were purchased and installed in preparation for a wheeling trip this upcoming weekend 04/06 - 04/08, so I can follow-up with any worthwhile feedback/updates.

My overall experience with CBI Offroad Fab was awesome!!! Eleven out of ten. 6 out of 5 stars. Nathan Wright was a pleasure to work with and was very communicative and quick to respond to many (!) emails, inquiries, and telephone calls. Thanks goes out to the guy(s) that fabbed the sliders as well. I would not hesitate to purchase anything from CBI Offroad Fab in the future, and in fact, the only holding me back is money!!!

My version of weld-penetration testing! We used a Lotus Development Hi-Lift Rock Slider Adapter that I got from ToyTec along with the R-CAMS (which you can see in the closeup shot).

Finished product! I had to tape it down along the length because it was getting cool as I was applying the antislip tape. And, 3M rolls the rough side "in" on the roll, so it kinda works against you during application. I even radiused the corners of the tape to an ~8mm curve. Not shown in these pics is the tape applied to the kickouts. I had to figure out how to lay it out to fit the curves of the kickout and it had been a long day by this point.

Potts Mountain Spring Run 2012

My tarp setup consists of the following:

Roof Rack
Yakima Mighty Mounts (24H) (QTY = 2)
Mini Quick Fist Clamps (QTY = 2)
6'-12' Unger aluminum extension pole (Home Depot)

Tarp
Kelty Noah's 12 Tarp
Cabela's Adjustable-Height Tent Poles - 9' (QTY = 2)
Guy lines and ground stakes as necessary

So, basically, the Mighty Mounts and Quick Fists allow me to quickly deploy the extension pole. I thread the pole through the reinforced tarp guy-out points and then clamp it back to the OEM roof rack. On the opposite side, the tent poles keep the tarp up and the guy lines make sure nothing moves. The tarp withstood 20-30 MPH winds at least, and pouring rain.

If my crossbars were more spread apart (they're close because of the shovel), it would be even more stable. I'd like to pick up at least one more OEM crossbar.

It's not perfect, but it's extremely light, portable (it's amazing how small the Kelty packs down to), and flexible. I can string the tarp between trees, two trucks, or the ground. I'm not saddled with an awning that can only deploy from a vehicle.

That was an exceptional update to your thread, hungwin! I just got a chance to read through all of the posts. From your off roading pics it looks like it's time for a BudBuilt skid!

I love how you've set up your 4Runner. Quality parts throughout, and the whole thing looks super clean. I would expect nothing less from somebody with who owns a Supra like yours.

I'm going to plagiarize your shovel mount, thank you very much. I just need to get some mighty mounts. And the "miscellaneous storage container" is a great idea for keeping the smaller items in your emergency kit organized and in one place... I was taking notes on that one too. Thanks for taking the time to post the details.
