What are you eastern 4Runner owners doing this weekend for the weather? I'm leaving the state of Virginia myself? Storing your rides, driving west. Let's hear what's up.

I know this topic is not related to the 4runner. So, moderator, if you feel the need to delete this topic....I'll understand. Just trying to start some history about this nasty weather for archival reasons.

Staying with gf in Danville, VA (have family). Living on the fringes of OBX during a storm is not fun. My 4runner is in Charleston, SC with my folks since my father's Ranger's transmission died due to saltwater getting in it during a flood earlier in the summer. The 4runner (99) may be in need of an ABS actuator if anyone has one on the cheap, but won't know for sure until sometime in September.
 
Been wheelin' and camping for 2 days, first I have heard of this; hope it doesn't hit too hard and all your stuff is there when you return :)
 
Packed and get ready for tomorrow. Out town is under the mandatory evacuation and we have decided not to take a chance. Going to somewhere in PA for a weekend.
 
We're "hunkering down" over here in Chesapeake :hiding:. Unfortunately the 4runner will be outside in the weather. Luckily there are no trees within striking distance, but I cringe thinking about what might be flying around out there tomorrow. Fingers crossed!
 
In Hampton, staying put. we still have power, but also 4 more hours until it hits Norfolk... this thing is slowwwwww.

4runner is safe and sound inside. unless inside becomes outside...:eek:
 

I live in the Richmond area and the worst of Irene seems to be over (or perhaps this is just the eye). The majority of people in my area have lost their power, although mine remains on for some reason.

We had tons of water and a lot of wind, but no significant damage -- at least on my street. I have found through Facebook that others in the region did not fare so well. There are gazillions of trees down, a few roads blocked and some property damage.


Tomorrow will be a "clean up day" for many people. We're about 100 miles inland, so we avoided the brunt of the storm. Now we have to worry about flooding and damaged power lines more than anything else.

At this point, the eye is close to us. you guys are seeing the far outreaches of the wind rain, apparently getting it pretty good too. i expected more out of this storm, but im still sitting here with power, internet and a cold fridge.
 
Sunday A.M.

Well, the worst has past the Newport News area. Chesapeake and Norfolk has flooding of the roads. I had to reschedule our canceled plane reservations for this afternoon from yesterday. We stayed at a friends house a short distance from ours. No trees were near my 'Runner, so no damage. :)
 
I live in Virginia Beach and i stayed put! I haven't lost power at all! And now that the storm is over, i don't think i will! The 4runner is undamaged, thank the lord! I would have cried if it was damaged!

I know it's a little late but here is my story: my family and I were on vacation in Disney from 8/19-8/27. At around 5 pm 8/26, JetBlue cancelled our flight into JFK (was scheduled to land at 1:45 pm). The earliest we were able to be rebooked for was 9/1. JetBlue was actually very nice and waived all fees- we decided to fly into Newark instead. So, that meant we were stranded in Disney for 5 extra days because of the hurricane. Our rental car company wanted $3,000 to drive the Explorer 940 miles home- yeah right. Disney offered reduced rates for those stranded to stay on property so that is what we did.

Unfortunately, we did not make any preparations at home for a hurricane. Our neighbor put the patio furniture under the deck. The GX was parked outside but luckily there are no trees near the driveway. Our county got hit very hard. I made the mistake of listening to the local news that evening. Imagine being many miles from home and not knowing what was going on. We lost lights at 11:30 pm Saturday and didn't get then back until 3:30 pm Thursday (around 20 minutes after we came home from the airport). Nobody had a key to our house so we were bracing for the worst. Luckily, our house did not flood and we had no damage (only house on our street to not have a flooded basement). The only loss was spoiled food in the refrigerator/freezer, which smelled horrendous. Imagine 5 days with no lights and no ventilation. We are very thankful for this outcome!
