Hurricane Ivan and Fort Rucker!

Well folks, it's that time again and now this bad boy is coming right our way. I will be able to get the young girl under the car port, but the old girl, 65 mustang, will have to ride the storm out in the drive way. I will attach picture tomorrow.
Fort Rucker is located approximately 35 miles west of Dothan, Alabama, and about 67 miles south of Montgomery, AL.
The whole post will be preparing for the upcoming event in the next few days.

I have been watching the storm and I am relieved when the storm went further west, thereby missing my parents and Sisters place. But I am sad it may to hit your area. I think the worst possible hit would be New Orleans, which is a couple feet under sea level. This storm could destroy the whole town. Good luck.

By the way my Sister who lives in West Palm Beach still has no power. I checked on generators in Atlanta and they are all sold out. I checked Home Depot, Lowes, Northern, etc. If you go to their web sites all of the generators are on back order. So if you need a generator, I doubt you will find one.
 
Hey Scout, hope you guys in Alabama don't get hit too hard - unfortunately it looks like someone in LA, MS, AL or FL is gonna get slammed :(

Hoping the best for you folks on the west side of Florida!

I'm over on the North East coast of Florida, and we've managed to dodge a direct hit for some time, though the last storm knocked out our power and phones for 4 days (still people without power in Florida from the LAST storm).

I know nobody wants to hear this, but I read that the hurricane activity has actually been under the average over the last 20 years, and meteorologists expect a dramatic _increase_ over the subsequent 20 years.

Looks like it's time to invest in some kind permanent storm shutters a BIG generator, ummm, and maybe a canoe :D

Prayers to you

I just wanted to send prayers to all of our friends in the Gulf States, I know we love our 4Runners, but I'm really concerned about all of the people! I'm sure all of our membership wishes all the Gulf states a safe ride thorugh this monster and let us know if any help can be sent afterwards! PLease be safe get out of there if you can. Our hearts and prayers are with you all!:(
 
Thanks guys. It looks like it is going to be a bad one. They are saying it will still be a category 1 hurricane when it gets to Montgomery. They are predicting we will have 50-60mph sustained winds for about 24 hrs as well as 8-13 inches of rain. I am just concerned about the creek that runs behind our house. It has never risen too high, but then again, we have never had that much rain.

Good luck Scout and anybody else that might be a part of this, directly or indirectly. I'll be checking in after this bastard is gone on Friday, if not before.
 
Panama City Beach

I was just watching the local news, the panama city beach channel that I get at FT. Rucker, and they were just hit by 4 tornados. Very impressive power.

We here in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, faced with Ivan just a few hours ago, faced with probable evacuation, appear to have dodged this massive storm. Blessings to all who will have to bear the brunt of this hurricane.

2 people died in one of those tornados. It is about 11 at night and the storm will hit around 2 AM. It is already raining in Atlanta from the storm. As "gac689" said "Our prayers are with you".

There is no doubt that this was one of the worse storms to hit our area in years. I hate to think about the families that have lost homes, cars, and more importantly lives. They had predicted that we would receive several inches of rain, here in Birmingham, but since the storm picked up speed, it was in and out faster than they had thought. We never lost power, but we did lose cable service, which in the grand scheme of things is very petty. I think at one time there were 1.3 million people without power in our state. There has been a lot of flooding, trees are down and power lines are down. If you know anybody in the path of this storm, just call and check on them. It makes a big difference whether you can get down there or not, just to hear a familiar voice calling them. Psychologically, this was a very bad storm that can't be measured, so every little thing helps. Thanks to all you guys/girls that have kept all of us in their thoughts and prayers.

Scout Av8er, just let us know how you and your family are doing when you can.
 
we are ok, hope all others are as well

we made it through, though we did spend some hectic moments in our hall way during to tornado warnings. Tree in front droped some branches, but missed both of the girls. :)
Spent most of the day today, with all the other soldiers, cleaning up the base. Hopefuly the weather cooperates tomorrow so I can clean both vehicles.

well we rode it out with no damage in Mobile, just a great deal of clean up still to be done, we got power back in about 36 hours, my mom in Ozark, Al. finally got it back yesterday, Dauphin Island for the most part is gone and yes it true the mighty FloraBama is all but gone

glad to hear you are ok, and yes I've heard of the few power issues at Ozark, glad to hear you mom is back up and running as well.
