HVAC lcd display, no light

This should be lit at night, when lights are on, right? Mine isn't, so I assume there's a bulb that needs replacement somewhere? Any idea how difficult this may be? Thanks!

You have the digital HVAC control. You need to take the unit out, remove it's faceplate, and replace the bulbs. It's a 10 minute job, really. If you want LEDs you need 2 Neo-wedge type A's and 2 Neo-wedge type B's, and you will need to modify them slightly so they fit into the board. Otherwise, just go to your Toyota parts dealer and order 'em (there are 4 bulbs total, you might as well replace them all).

can the unit switches be replaced as easily also? I asked in another thread and got no response? my 99 limited has a light out and very very finicky switches!

Thanks, sorry to hijack!

wdhigh, no worries.

Thanks for the responses guys. That write-up is very good. I still have a 30-day warranty from where I bought the car, but it sounds like it may not be worth it to take it to them for this.

A related question: is there supposed to be some night light around the shifter area? (it's completely dark on mine, but not really an issue because I just go by the dash shift lights).

Yep. The numbers and letters should be illuminated.

I would go with the LEDS from autolumination.com, they are cheaper than buying them from the dealer and they last longer. I recently replaced all mine in my 99 limited and it looks sweet. As for buying a new HVAC unit, they are super expensive (from the dealer they are around $900!

REVIVING THIS THREAD

My digital readout and surrounding lights have all completely gone out. All the digital climate control lights are LED's. What's the deal? I know there's the whole problem with the digital ones acting funny and losing lights. Do I need new lights or do I need to take this thing out and clean up everything? Maybe do some soldering.
