HVAC question.. Does non-recirc air get filtered?

I was just wondering this today...given that the cabin filter is above the blower and thus seems like only when blower is in operation that cabin air is filtered.

What if you are using the fresh air function versus that of the blower? Does the fresh air pass through the blower even though there is no power to the blades to create "wind"? It seems like i have been getting a larger amount of dust than I had been before.(using the 3m modified filters).

The fresh air intake is on top of the blower assy. The cabin filter is between the fresh air intake and the blower fan which is located on the bottom of the blower assy. The blower fan is a squirrel cage type fan which pulls air into the center and exhausts it out the side into the air conditioning/radiator control assy. From there it is ducted to the different parts of the vehicle, depending on how the controls are set. It looks like all air entering the blower is filtered by the cabin air filter. If you are getting more dust that before, maybe the cabin air filter needs to be replaced, or it has become damaged.

thanks...i have been riding around with the windows down a bit more now that its cooling down but it just got me thinking about this whole subject.

So it would seem that no matter what, all air that enters the cabin---either under ram air pressure (fresh) or being blown.
