Hybrid 4Runner/Tacoma

I drive quite a lot. In the 14 months that i've owned a 4runner I've put over 22,000 miles on my ride. I end up filling the tank up every 5-6 days and with the rising gas prices its getting kind of expensive.

Do you guys know if they are planning on making a hybrid 4Runner or a Tacoma?

I don't know. But one of the things to think about is that you will pay upwards of 3 to 4 thousand more for a hybrid. In essence, you are paying up front. You would have to figure out how long it would take to make up the difference through gas savings from better mileage.

I don't think there'll be a hybrid 4runner:( i bet they'll make highlander hybrid though, since lexus will have their rx hybrids coming out. and seeing as how there's waiting lists for the prius, i bet a hybrid highlander will be a hot seller
I hear you with the filling up every week. my 94 gets a whopping 13-14 mpg in town...gotta love the 3.slow!

02sport, they already make the highlander hybrib. I think it is already on sale. If you don't keep your automobiles for more than 3-4 years, I don't see the advantage of getting a hybrid. Since you will be paying thousands more for it. Over the long run it will equal out and eventually say you money. Oh ya, you get a one time tax write off too.

Hybrid Highlander launches in June. You can buy one now, but wont have it until summer sometime. Expect the Camry, Sienna to get it next, the Taco and Runner will be down the list.

Toyota is strongly looking at producing more vehicles here in the states, mainly hybrids for increased production.

I could be wrong but I think they already have a hybrid highlander that came out before the lexus.

I was told that the Highlander was held up because Toyota wants to launch the Lexus first. It was characterized as a huge political battle inside Toyota.

I think that you are right. However, I have been reading about the highlander model for the past two years. They must be delaying for the reasons you state. I do know that I heard about the highlander long before the lexus.

The Lexus RX and Highlander are mechanically equivalent. Any development setback is a set back for both.

I agree in principle but disagree with you in general. Yes the two trucks are mostly equivalent, but the highlander hybrid has been around and tested more than the lexus. There are slight power variations between the two specs and the lexus has not really been tested enough for toyota to release it. This facted added to the fact that toyota inc. wants the lexus out prior to the highlander has made for a delay.

Rats. I thought this thread was going to be about a 4Runner with a pickup bed!

Move along, nothing to see here.
